This relates to Tom because he has a no objections over the money he is spending on Myrtle and the apartment he lets her have, which in turn he deems is acceptable to treat and have her as one  of his possessions. This is the result of the possessive and controlling part of Tom that has to have things his way or no way.

Has obvious anger and jealousy over Gatsby’s love for Daisy and likewise, but goes on to cheat on Daisy with Myrtle. Because he’s a “somebody” from “somewhere” he is allowed the leeway of sleeping with other husband’s wives if he so pleases, just from the idea that he is more worthy and better than other men.

Gatsby clearly wants to fit in with the upper class and Tom is having none of it because he wasn’t born into the wealth he has now and spends his money on “unacceptable” frivolous things like i.e. a pink suit. This is just such an ingrained thing in Tom that someone must be of the same class to socialize with people of the same class.

Have you read The Rise of the Colored Empires by this man Goddard?" His obvious hatred of anyone who isn't white is extreme to the point where he "broke out violently".
