He was born in 1567 in Brouage, France and died 1635 in Quebec city, after 32 years of exploration and founding  French places in Canada.

The treaty 1 was signed there. They built The lower fort Garry because the original was destroyed by a flood in 1826. The fort was owned by HBC until 1951.

It was also used for training of the North west mounted police from 1873-1874 . The first contingent of Mounties arrived to train at lower fort Garry in October 22, 1873, and on November 3 they were sworn in and started training.

Champlain and his crew built a wooden fort which they call l'habitation within only a few days of their arrival. This fort is known today as old Québec.
