Class Goal: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify these parts of speech in sentences.

3. Flow: Settle down and create a relaxed atmosphere (5) > Check homework and retention from last class (10) > Assess their knowledge of Parts of Speech in English- see if they are familiar with the concepts in Hindi/Gujarati (10) > Write the names of each part of speech in the notebook in both Eng and Hindi/Gujarati with examples (15) > Spell and pronounce them with the students (5) > Have students identify and underline parts of speech in the workbook exercises: pg 2-4 (15) > Parts of Speech Quest* (15) > Wrap-up: Homework and Launch -- the story of Helen Keller (15)

Key Points: 1) Check their existing knowledge of parts of speech in Hindi/Gujarati and use it to explain

2) Teach how to spell and pronounce the names of parts of speech

3) Inform students that there are 8 parts of speech, but we are focusing on 4 today.

4) Use guiding questions to help students identify parts of speech in sentences:

"What are we talking about?" (Noun); "What is happening"? (Verb); "How many/What kind?" (Adjective); "Where/when?" (Preposition)

5) Encourage students to look at surrounding words to help identify parts of speech.

1) Parts of Speech Quest*: Divide blackboard into 4 sections for nouns, verbs, adjectives and prepositions > Give students 5-7 mins to move about and look for examples of each > when they find examples, they return to write them on the board under the correct category > Gather the students around the board and discuss.

2) Launch - inspire them through Helen Keller's story and quotes.

3) Celebrate their achievements/efforts and use reward stickers.

Part 1: Introduction & Warm-up (15 minutes)

Objective: Activate prior knowledge, set the tone

• 15 min – Quick Brainstorm:
  Ask, "What is a noun?" "What is a pronoun?"
  List all responses on the board. Use these to guide instruction later.

  
  

Part 2: Nouns Deep Dive (35 minutes)

Objective: Teach types and uses of nouns

• 10 min – Direct Instruction with Examples
  Types of nouns:

  • Common vs. Proper

  • Concrete vs. Abstract

  • Countable vs. Uncountable

  • Collective Nouns

• 10 min – Group Activity: “Noun Sort”
  Hand out cards with words.
  In groups, students sort the nouns into types.
  Class discussion afterward to review results.

• 15 min – Pair Work: Noun Hunt
  In pairs, students find 5 nouns of each type in a short reading passage or around the room.
  Share findings with the class.

Part 3: Pronouns Deep Dive (35 minutes)

Objective: Understand types and use of pronouns

  Types of pronouns:

  • Possessive (mine, yours)

  • Reflexive (myself, yourself)

  • Demonstrative (this, that)

  • Relative (who, which)

  • Indefinite (someone, anyone)

• 15 min – Fill-in-the-Blank Pronoun Worksheet
  Sentences missing pronouns; students complete and justify their choices in pairs.

• 10 min – 'Pronoun Recognition'
  Reading out the sentences aloud; students mark pronouns they hear.

Part 4: Integration Activity – Nouns & Pronouns Together (30 minutes)

Objective: Apply concepts in writing/speaking

• 10 min – Creative Writing Prompt
  Prompt: “Write a short story about a mysterious package.”
  Must include at least 5 types of nouns and 3 types of pronouns.

• 10 min – Peer Review & Pronoun/Noun Check
  Exchange stories and identify nouns/pronouns in each other’s work.

• 10 min – Sharing & Feedback
  Volunteers read stories aloud.
  Class identifies types of nouns/pronouns used.
