The speaker for the song "When I Grow Up" is the singer NF because he is mainly talking about the struggles of his life. The song was made for sharing when he was growing up and inspired to be a rapper rather than going to college and working a 9-5 job. It is also to show his motivation from doubters growing motivated him to make music in the first place.

NF acting as the speaker attempts to tell people that people that want to follow their dreams They use the appeals of ethos and pathos in the lyrics and the appeals of logos and ethos in the video to get this message across. In analyzing the lyrics and video, it appears that their use of appeals is effective cause it show the slow rise to when he want a change and then he does change his life into something he wants to do

Ethos-the song has a lot of Ethos the first one is when he says "I been workin' on 'em, I'll be good eventually / I understand you gotta crawl before you get to your feet" when he says this he is saying that he know that he is not the best singer but that he is working on himself to get better and that he has to go slow when doing it not going straight to the end of the road. the next one is when he says "I can't lie though, it's kinda how I like it to be" when he says this he means that he does not care what his haters say he is going to keep doing what he is doing. the last thing that represents ethos is when he says " I could go to college, get in debt like everybody else" when he says this he means that he could just hang up his dream and do a Nine to Five job and have debt for the rest of his life

Lyrics - Pathos

This song has some pathos to make the audience feel sadness for the speaker. The first Pathos is when he says, "I know this probably is not realistic. / And honestly, I might not ever make a difference " he knows that he might not make it big as a singer or make a difference in life. However, he is trying for his ambition to become a rapper. The following example of Pathos is when he says, "Might not be the best in my field, But I guarantee that I am a die real" When he says this, he means that he knows that he will never be the best in the rap game, but he is going to keep doing it till he dies. This tries to get the audience to feel emotion for him knowing that he might not make it big and will die doing it. The last example of Pathos is when it sounds like he is asking to sing for someone, and they do not want to hear him in verse "Come on, I can spit it really fast (no)." When he said I could spit it really fast, a voice said no as if someone did not want to hear what he had to say. Make the listener feel sad that no one wanted to hear what he wanted to sing and try to break into the music business. That was some of examples of Pathos

In conclusion the lyrics used ethos and pathos to show what he went through to get where he is today and tell people to show his dream for the future and why is singing for. In the video we looked for logos and ethos and followed a young man going from dead end job to job then deciding to do his dream or die trying in the end this song does make you feel for the speaker when he is down and also follow your dreams.
