I grew up in a big family, and one of my favorite reading memories is sitting down all together and listening to my mom read The Chronicles of Narnia series aloud. She had different voices for all of the characters, and we never missed a night!

In my memory, I’ve always known how to read, which, of course, is impossible; so I can only assume that Mum began teaching me the sounds of the letters as she read to me from my earliest days. My fondest memories of early reading moments are of Mum and I lying on the floor in front of the heating stove, a loaf of bread dough rising beside us as I read to her and she, in turn, read to me. Another favorite reading spot was sitting on my pony’s back or lying in the grass while he grazed nearby. I still have my copy of Black Beauty which is missing half the cover because he got curious and ate it before I could stop him!

I come from a family of readers, and I learned at an early age that reading is fun! My parents and older sister took time to read to me and cultivated a love of reading. I still remember the very first book I learned to read by myself- Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day!

I did not grow up in a house of readers but I wanted my kids to have memories like the ones posted. So my fondest memory is piling on my bed every night and reading with my children before they went to bed. "Go Away Big Green Monster", "Goodnight Moon", "Going on a Bear Hunt", "The Giving Tree", and my all-time favorite "Love you, Forever".

I was the student that always had a book hidden under the desk so that I could read instead of listening to the teacher. I began reading at night before going to sleep at an early age, and it's something that I still do almost every night.

I have always LOVED reading from an early age. I was always in the "advanced" reading groups in elementary school. I remember getting in trouble at night because I would stay up with a flashlight to read under the covers after bedtime. I also remember specific instances that I've been completely drawn in and entranced by reading to the degree where after I put down the book, I still felt like I was in the world of the story! In the 9th grade I read a post-apocalyptic novel where they didn't have any food....and then I went to the cafeteria to eat and I was physically relived to see food....I felt like I was living the character's life! I still fondly remember going to the library during summer break in highschool and checking out 20 books at a time, loving that I had the time to read 2 or 3 a day!

When I was pregnant with my daughter, we once read "I'm a Big Brother Now" to my second son. One part says something like, "The baby is too little to eat pizza or apples or ice cream." At that point, Rocco burst into tears because he thought it was super sad for the baby. Still, a few days later, he asked me to read the book again. Again, he cried at that exact part. My husband and I would hide the book in an attempt to avoid the trauma, but he kept asking us to read the book to him - and of course he cried every time we got to that part, even when he would promise not to. We still tease him about that.

I'm currently reading "The Wild Card" which is a book about teacher/student engagement, written by Hope and Wade King, teachers at the Ron Clark Academy! (I even got a signed copy!) Added Bonus: They mention our very own Mrs. Boyd and her amazing student engagement skills - as a former student, I still have a scented cookie sticker and hello kitty "tattoo" from Pre-Cal with her! :)
