In Kinder/1st we had a music curriculum(in Spanish) where our class would sit on the rug and sing silly Spanish rhymes and songs.

Going to the Library

When I was in k-5 my Dad would often take my brother and I to the library. Because he was a teacher, his library card allowed him to check out a lot of books and we would come home with a huge Costco bag of them. But, they’d be read in a few days anyway.

Spanish Spelling Bee

I was in my schools Spanish spelling Bee twice during k-5. This was a neutral experience, I only ever made in a round or two.

English Class

In 4th grade my Spanish program was required to have 45m of English instruction for the first time. I remember being so embarrassed that I couldn’t spell words like “elephant” in English.

Library Club(middle school)

In middle school, I joined a club that met with the librarian once a week to read and discuss a book. This led me to being an active reader through middle school.
