*Unlike typical Bengal tigers, black tigers carry a rare genetic condition known as pseudo-melanism, where their dark stripes thicken and merge.

*Simlipal Tiger Reserve is home to elephants, leopards, hundreds of bird species, and most famously the black tiger.

*The reserve is over 2,700 square kilometers of dense forests, rivers, and grasslands, offering a thriving ecosystem.

*Wildlife experts believe the genetic of the tigers in Simlipal is due to the isolation from other reserves, which may have led to this unique coat pattern.

*The photograph that is now viral was actually selected midway through the photographer’s assignment.

*Simlipal is the only known habitat of black tigers in the wild, the photograph is not just breathtaking but historically significant.

They hunt mammals such as deer, rabbits, and elk, and birds such as ducks and pheasants, and eat carcasses when food is scarce. They usually lay 1 to 4 eggs between January and February, hold them for about 45 days, and raise their babies for 70 to 100 days.

The sword eagle was designated a natural monument in 1973 and a first-class endangered wild life in 2012.

1. Taiwan’s animal shelters have stopped killing animals since 2017, but this has led to overcrowding and bad living conditions for the animals.

2. The law says animals can be put to sleep if they are very sick or dangerous, but this almost never happens because people and vets don’t like it.
