We were challenged to, in groups, create a 25 second suspense scene using five 5 second clips. In preparation of this we learnt Hitchcock's three suspense lessons.

Before this activity I felt apprehensive. I have never created an actual film before this and I was unsure where to start. I'm also often uncomfortable in group environments. 
After this activity I felt relieved that it had been completed and that it wasn't too difficult however I was still apprehensive and unsure of my work.

We used the bomb theory technique by showing the audience that there was a dead end coming up that the character was unaware of as well as allowing the audience to work it out themselves because we showed that the character was being chased without showing what was chasing them.

We planned out our plot and shots before we began filming. We researched other short suspense scenes for inspiration and looked at which shots can be used where to be most effective. We also planned out any editing and sound effects.

The biggest challenge was finding fitting sound effects and editing the clips so that they fitted and flowed well with consistency. The initial planning was also a challenge as we struggled at first to come up with an idea to work from.

What I would do differently (outside of using a different actor) is that I would refilm the close up shot to ensure better continuity as the shot we used had to be taken in a different location. I would also refilm the last shot as I am unhappy with the final result. Any other changes would drastically change the final product so I wouldn't change the story, however moving forward I will work to incorporate a better/clearer narrative in my work.

From this activity I got several ideas to develop for my short scene. These include heavy breathing sounds, increasing and decreasing volumes, comparisons between the actions of characters, using different angles of the same shot to emphasis a moment, and using lighting to make a perfectly innocent seeming location much more sinister.
