Teachers fight time all the time. They have a certain amount of time that they have to teach all these things to students before their test and the next grade level. Kindergarden is when fundementals are taught furder in and how to write and so on. If studetns learn thier ABS in prek or ealrier they will have it easier on them and the teacher. This is where a good day care comes in as well as the parent helping the child.

So if they learn their ABCs before kindergarten it only gives then a head start in how much they can learn while they are in school.

I think learning the alphabet before kindergarten is very important. It is something that most kids can start picking up on at a very early age, and I think it should be encouraged for parents and preschools to teach pre-kindergarten level students the alphabet. Students have so much to learn and cover during their first primary years of school that it would be to the students' and the teachers' benefit and best interest if the kids already had a grasp on letters of the alphabet.

They should not have to spent time teaching a child something they should have learned before they got to that grade. Kindergarten teachers should only have to review the alphabet.

Here is a link for some games to help review the alphabet.

http://pbskids.org/games/abc/

I believe that at the very latest, kids should at least be introduced to the alphabet around preschool age. Here's a video of a 7 month old baby who is able to pick words off of cards when his parents ask him to identify them. There's no doubt that this child will have a huge advantage going into kindergarten and beginning to learn how to read longer passages and books.

But more importantly it is an easy task that parents should teach their children so kids can learn other fundamentals in school and build more on those so they have better success throughout the year.

and it's fun.. watch the video it's so cute!

I don't believe that students have to have the entire alphabet memorized by the time that they start kindergarten, but I do think that they need to be familiar with it and have most of the letters down, if possible. I am a strong believer that putting children through preschool is a must if you are able, as it gets them accustomed to being around other students all day and learn how to act appropriately, so there's less stress and crying when they actually start kindergarten. Preschool also helps the children learn the basics so that when they enter elementary school, they are able to move on and grow more during the year.

Parents are a child's first teacher. Before being taught by a stranger, a child learns from his or her family first. Our parents probably can't teach us everything, but the one thing parents must teach their children before kindergarten is the alphabet. We use these letters to talk and write, therefore a child learning the alphabet before starting school is very important.
