I work in a kindergarten. Even here is the gender stereotype. Don't play with cars - it's for boys, my son plays with dolls - a nightmare. Sometimes I hear voices like that! But this is not surprising. My son loved playing with dolls when he was little - why? Because there were no dolls at home, because he was just curious ... and somehow he grew up to be a decent guy, studying computer science at one of the best universities in Poland. Although he played with dolls, he cooked in the kitchen corner. Let's break these stereotypes!

Truly, I can't remember. I would say that there is equality in the classroom. I will mention that I work in classes where most are all male students. I use the Project Based Learning (PBL). The PBL is a heuristic teaching methodology that involves students in an active process of building knowledge such as negotiation and social construction for a better acquisition of a significant scientific knowledge. I divide the students into heterogeneous groups. All team members present the work done with Padlet and the built artifacts. The PBL creates a space for exchange and comparison to communicate and reflect, express their opinions and modify them, if necessary. The context predisposes to an inclusive teaching. The PBL uses a pupils logbook, a document / diary of reflection and metacognition, where they can freely write their own considerations. Feedback, authentic assessment and self-assessment forms. In Science at school we organize scientific laboratories with experts such as Luigi Bignami. It is also important to present the life of women who have left their mark in the scientific field, such as Samantha Cristoforetti (ESA), Rita Levi Montalcini, Margherita Hack and Fabiola Gianotti.

I teach health subjects and year after year the majority of oure students are female. Also in today's society the majority of caregivers are female. It is difficult to change because they enroll the courses they choose.
What we can do is fostering our students to keep on studying, to enroll university and to start researching and investigating about health topics.
My students's course is named Health Information Technician and they are motivated to research and analyze government data with real information of data from hospitals and any other health centres.
We take care of our vocabulary in order to be inclusive and gender equal, for instance we always talk about female doctors and male nurses.

In my classes all students work on the same subjects. When they work in groups, or in pairs, there are always boys and girls. I see no difference in male thinking and female thinking in problem solving, or in carrying out proposed tasks. In the classroom, students do not show gender stereotypes.

I have not observed behaviors that make gender differences in my school for a long long time. In my particular case I always encourage boys and girls alike and demand good levels in the same amount. I am a Preschool teacher, even students in the 4-5-6 age group give their role as a nurse to the doctor, to the girls, and shape their games. Or I try to minimize gender discrimination by having various conversations to prevent gender discrimination at this age when only astronauts display conversations like being male.

Even though girls are interested in science and there are no gender stereotypes, the number of boys is higher than that of girls.

In the type of seocondary school I work in there is majority of female students (Grammar school), but I cannot say that in my subject there is any gender stereotype - one could say girls are not as good in space orientation (I teach geography), but there are many boys who have the same problem so... Another example is school choir - there is majority of girls, boys are maybe more shy in singing, or it is just reflection of general relation of girls and boys in school.

Although teachers may not have any stereotypes in their classes ,some kids have already faced gender discrimination from their families that show them for example the "right" direction towards their future professions that are °suitable" for boys or girls. So it is very important for educational systems and educators to manage to change this mentality .The best way in my opinion is to introduce school subjects like STEM,STEAM,Robotics in the school curriculum even from the early age.

To combat these boundaries, I often highlight the remarkable logical and application skills of the (few) girls in my chemistry and science lessons, skills that are even superior to those of boys. I often realize that girls hesitate to answer questions I ask in my physics class much longer than boys do. There seems to be less self confidence in physics topics. So I'm giving the whole class more time for their answers and if necessary some hints. I also tell them, that the answers don't need to be completely correct and that there are often many different preconcepts to physical topics and I want to hear them. - Everybody has got an opinion!
To me it seems that this helps girls to participate more actively in my physics classes!

I had one of my students who is of the impression that certain tasks should be carried out by either a male or a female. This student was rather perplexed when other students explained to her that some of their dads do housework and iron their clothes and that their mums sometimes do mechanical works on their cars. Their was even a student admitted that her father cooks and washes the floor better than her mum! This particular student was rather challenged in this regard, especially when I also showed a video clip where a female proposed to a male.

Sometimes the boys tend to let the girls do the writing or the washing of the lab material because they claim girls are more tidy and organize. I fight this by telling them whose work I ´m taking to assess (when in group work) - boy or girl just 10 min before do so, so they know everybody has to write the best they can. The washing and tiding of the lab is rotational in groups and nobody of the group leaves before the work is done. Often they help each other because they want to leave as soon as possible.

My students in kindergarten express gender stereotypes very often when they are talking to each other and when they are playing. Every time I hear or see something like this I use it as an opportunity to discuss about the stereotypes and reveal the social norms beneath. Also I am very careful in the language I use and I try to use a gender neutral language. If someone asked me about gender equality at my classes, I would say I balance it. However, this course made me think about it. I considered the situation again and found the case of gender inequality. In the end of the semester, when students bring the books back to school, I always ask boys to help me bring them in the library. After this course I will change my attitude. Moreover, I will plan some projects for my students about this topic.

In my experience, students choose scientific careers on the basis of their interests. Those who are aware of their cognitive features appear more self-confident when they think to their future career. On the other hand, often parents choose the school, which their children will attend, on the base of their beliefs.
In both cases, lots of students should be re-oriented.
In fact, sometimes cultural bias affect the process which lead to the school choise. These bias continue to affect our capability to involve women in STEM because they are indiscernible due to their well established presence.

I see it often when the boys want ore of the attention than the girls. When I do observations of my teachers, I see they call on the boys more , even when they try not to. The boys will often be more forthcoming (right or wrong!) with answers and the girls more patient, think before they speak. When boys are asked to wait or sometimes to answer in their science journal, they will disengage or act out, thus monopolizing the teacher's attention. So even when teacher do not want to discriminate, they often do, unconsciously in order to promote harmony.

I teach at a vocational school, and mechanics courses consist of boys only. When I prepare my classes, I always dedicate a space to "Make Career Connections", so when I refer, for example, to women in the field of mechanics, my students make comments such as: "Mechanics are not for women". In my class (History) there is no discrimination about gender. However, sometimes I ask my students to do biographies of women who were great at sciences or other subjects (politics, arts, social and humans sciences, etc.) to promote the role women. In fact, girls love the idea and boys change their thinking about the intellectual and social importance of women. This is a little step towards to promote true gender equality.
