Even after Nick tells them it isn’t true, they still believed the rumors and Nick is seeing how caught up they are in their wealthy world. Once home, Nick sees Gatsby standing outside looking towards the water at a green light. He looks away for a brief moment that looks back to see that Gatsby is gone. This is starting to show the mysteries of Gatsby.

Finally, Nick is talking to a man that he doesn’t know, then the man tells him he is Gatsby. Nick says, “I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known,” Nick begins to realize the life of the people around him. They all lie and think that money and popularity is everything.
