My father wanted me to be braver than I was. I wanted to say that I was scared, both when the burro
had hold of me and now, at this moment, but I didn’t." this evidence shows that carlota feels scared but it's not because she was about to drown, but about the fact that her father might be dissapointed in her. another example, “It was good fortune,” I said. 
“Fortune and bravery often go together,” Don Saturnino said. “If you do not hurt, let us go.” this shows that he IS proud of her! he said she was brave, and he says "bravery and fortune often go together."

 Another example in the text says, "You were very brave." This shows that Carlota's father would be proud of her even if she doesn't admit that she is tired.
