Throughout most of my adult life I have wanted to be a teacher however I would prefer to teach students who actually want to learn and have a desire to increase their knowledge and to better their future. I believe that through teaching economics I can help students understand a lot about the world that we live in and even if this isn’t their intended major it can help them to understand our economy and make smarter life decisions in the long run. Finally I think that as a person the best way for me to contribute to society as a whole would be to teach and to help other people to contribute in a positive way.
While I am only a freshman at Alma College I do plan on continuing with my major in economics and eventually attend a graduate school to earn a master's degree in order to finally begin my life as a teacher. After this is achieved I believe that my experience will speak for me but Along the way I have also participated in multiple tutoring opportunities and even worked briefly as a high school coach. Finally before or during my time in grad school I still plan on working as an economist or an accountant of some sort and with this experience I will be able to tell my students what it is like in the real world if this becomes their intended major or even to connect it with real world events. These life experiences and time in the workforce will help me to become a better teacher and to better prepare my students for the real world outside the classroom.
A job in teaching has had my attention for a long time and I think that I will be well suited for the job being offered. I have a great desire to teach students but only those who truly want to learn which is why I wish to teach at the community college level. Teaching economics can benefit a student even if it is not their intended major by showing real world examples and relating it to everyday life. Also the coaching experience is a plus demonstrating his success in a teaching environment and be able to work a flexible yet steady schedule. Coaching also shows the applicants ability to work with youth and with people of all backgrounds.
