Probably what happens to many students is that, since schools test books, they manage to make it an obligation. This unconsciously generates in the minds of students a rejection of literature.

Love appears in the story linked to a kind of sacrificial gesture: along with the joint work through which the Swallow and the Prince give themselves to the help of those in need, a loving feeling is woven between both characters. And the progress of the plot proposes, in turn, a new dimension in the aforementioned complementary relationship: faced with the Prince's blindness, it is the Swallow who goes on to recount the miseries that she observes when flying over the city. The gesture of sacrifice becomes greater, at the same time, while the conditions worsen.

The most interesting thing about the Nightingale's decision to sacrifice himself for love, and what constitutes the character in his sensitive nobility, is that the gesture does not have the goal of conquest. It is this point, perhaps, that evidences the greatness and originality of the author. Because countless times literature has represented sacrifice in connection with the love affair, but in the vast majority of cases it is a character who performs a detrimental action for himself whose purpose is to win the heart of his beloved or beloved. The particular thing about "The Nightingale and the Rose" is, precisely, that the Nightingale will not obtain more benefit, with his sacrifice, than knowing that with his gesture he will help a lover to realize his love. The protagonist of the story is, therefore, a lover of love

A traditionally wonderful story focused on the worries and fears of children (the happiness ruined by the evil of a villain), and then turn the attention towards the worries and fears more typical of adulthood, such as the loss of youth, loneliness and death. As in other stories in the collection, this story proposes generosity and love as means to achieve beauty with which to face those fears.
