Probably the most famous opera house in the world is Sydney Opera House. The dreamy Whitehaven Beach is on the Whitsunday Islands. The huge Great Barrier Reef and the striking Great Ocean Road with the 12 Apostles are also part of it. The breathtaking Blue Mountains with the Three Sisters, the wild Fraser Island with endless beaches or the striking landmark of Australia (Ayers Rock / Uluru) are wonderful experiences. Canberra, the capital and the seat of government of Australia, is of course worth a visit, as you can even enter most of the government buildings as a tourist. You should also take in the enchanting flora and fauna of the Australian continent in at least one of the many national parks. The Kakadu National Park in the north near the coastal town of Darwin or the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney with its fern gardens, a rosarium and a tropical greenhouse in pyramid shape are particularly recommended. In addition to the Sydney Opera House, the Harbor Bridge is another of the city's landmarks. It is the main link between Sydney's north and south coast and is over 1000 m long. On New Year's Eve there is always a huge fireworks display on the bridge, which starts the local celebrations. It is also considered a tourist attraction to climb the arch of the bridge for a fee. Such climbing tours can be booked through various providers both at dawn and during the day, as well as at dusk or at night. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site is Fraser Island, a 1,800 km² sand island and thus the largest sand island in the world, which was created by sand deposits and is located in northeast Australia. The name of the Aborigines is "K’gari", which means paradise, and the island with its diverse biodiversity and beautiful eucalyptus forests and mangrove swamps has earned this name. There are 40 species of mammals to be seen on Fraser Island alone, as well as marine life such as humpback whales, sea turtles and dolphins.

SYDNEY Downtown AreaSydney is probably the most famous city in Australia and with 4.6 million inhabitants definitely the largest. The cityscape is shaped by water: on the one hand at one of the most beautiful natural harbors in the world, on the other hand towards the coast with the dream beaches of Bondi Beach and Manly Beach. But also in the adjacent hinterland, where there are several national parks, there are plenty of rivers and streams flowing. So it is not surprising that a substantial part of the local public transport is carried out by ferries and boats; Sydney is also the cultural center of Australia. An almost unmanageable number of theaters, concert halls, museums and ballet stages attract not only the 10 million annual visitors to the city, but also the locals who proudly call themselves “Sydneysider”. The climate is moderate, so not as hot as the summer in South Australia, but not as humid as the subtropical regions in the north. Winter, in particular, is characterized by mild, moderate temperatures that rarely come close to freezing. Frost is unknown here.

MELBOURNE, the capital of Victoria, is the second largest city in Australia with a population of 4 million. As a trend metropolis, it is certainly in first place: this is where the internationally recognized artists live, this is where fashion is made, and this is where the hottest architecture can be found. This may be due to the fact that Melbourne is also the multicultural center of Australia. The many immigrants from China, Greece, Italy and Vietnam not only shape the culinary offer in the countless restaurants, but much more. The cityscape is firmly connected with the Yarra River, which meanders through the center and on the banks of which much of urban life takes place.Melbourne is climatically a temperate place. Neither summer nor winter is prone to extremes here. But the weather is often changeable and requires an umbrella, especially in early summer (October to December), even if you leave the house when the sun is shining.

The Rabbit-Proof Fence, however, actually State Barrier Fence of Western Australia and better known as The Vermin Fence, was a protective fence in Western Australia to constantly prevent rabbits (but also others such as dingoes, kangaroos and emus) from grazing there - and to spread or bring in farmland. It was built between 1901 and 1908 and consisted of three partial fences with a total length of 3,256 km. The cost was £ 337,841.Rabbits were brought to Australia as early as 1788 with the First Fleet, the first settlers to die, and initially introduced into stables. However, in 1859 a Victoria farmer was able to free 24 rabbits, believing that a few rabbits could do no harm and that hunting rabbits would make him feel more at home.In 1891 the rabbits had almost completely colonized the continent through mass reproduction and were also sighted for the first time in Western Australia. In 1896 an officer was sent out to check how far the rabbits had gotten into the state. He spotted rabbits on the coast at Esperance, some 320 km west of the South Australian border and less than 100 km east of Jerdacuttup, and recommended the erection of a fence along the South Australian border in his report. In 1901 a royal commission decided to build this fence from the south to the north coast.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres (1,400 mi) over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. It supports a wide diversity of life and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. CNN labelled it one of the seven natural wonders of the world in 1997.[8] Australian World Heritage places included it in its list in 2007. The Queensland National Trust named it a state icon of Queensland in 2006.[10]Great Barrier ReefUNESCO World Heritage SiteSatellite image of part of the Great Barrier Reef adjacent to the Queensland coastal areas of Airlie Beach and MackayLocationOff the east coast of the Queensland mainland the Great Barrier ReefShow map of QueenslandShow map of AustraliaShow allA large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which helps to limit the impact of human use, such as fishing and tourism. Other environmental pressures on the reef and its ecosystem include runoff, climate change accompanied by mass coral bleaching, dumping of dredging sludge and cyclic population outbreaks of the crown-of-thorns starfish. According to a study published in October 2012 by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the reef has lost more than half its coral cover since 1985, a finding reaffirmed by a 2020 study which found over half of the reef's coral cover to have been lost between 1995 and 2017, with the effects of a widespread 2020 bleaching event not yet quantified. The Great Barrier Reef has long been known to and used by the Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and is an important part of local groups' cultures and spirituality. The reef is a very popular destination for tourists, especially in the Whitsunday Islands and Cairns regions. Tourism is an important economic activity for the region, generating over 3 billion $ per year.
