French system is hard to be defined as good or bad :)

There are certain aspects which for me (as a Polish person) are hard to be understood. First of all, all students pass to the higher grade, no matter if they have good or bad grades...yes well, hard to imagine :) There is absolutely no motivation, neither positive or negative for students to be good at school. In general if parents are not interested in their kid's education, he probably will not achieve a lot. The good point (on the contrary to Polish schools for example) is that we have a special group of people who take of kids during breaks, so we don't have to watch them. They also take care of their absence etc. Every morning , if a student is absent, the school has to call parents to ask if everything is OK. The advantage of the system is also the fact that if the student causes difficulties during the lessonn , we can send him out of the classroom to the special place whereb he is taken care of and he is supposed to work. Of course we can't exagerrate with the exclusions, otherwise there is no place for them outisde the classroom:)
As for the nmethods, we work mainly with a project-based methods. Hard to explain in writing. These methods would work well with motivated students but in France it is pretty complicated (unless you go to a private school). We are pretty well equipped so it helps, even though our students do not really appreciate what they have.

One method that I want to mention, which is widely used at different subjects, is Starbursting (Explozia Stelară) It consists in writing on a piece of paper a topic or idea. We add different questions (such as : Who...? Where...?When...? Why...?etc.) which have the starting point in what was written at the beginning on the paper. It is very easy to apply this method to any age and different subjects. One important advantage, besides others, is that it might be a source for new discoveries.

Coding in school you can start with simple games without using a computer. In this way, children learn new competences, while learning new concepts and phrases. The games of coding in a gentle and friendly way introduce children to a world that teaches logical thinking, observation and education. We gradually familiarize children with new concepts, which become more understandable and positively associated by children, because programming can be great fun. During such activities, we teach children, among others: cooperation, planning, analyzing and creating various codes on their own. This form of learning through play perfectly prepares children to take their first steps in programming.

Experiments, observations and own actions of pupils are my favourite methods of teaching. They are demanding, becuase they need time, patience and involvement, but they give satisfaction and their results stay in students' minds longer. As someone clever said: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." And I can add: if you hear, see and do you will totally get it and learn it ;) That's why I very often choose experiments and actions as methods of teaching. Children are willing to talk about their observations and results, they like sharing photos, information and ideas. In the pictures you can see effects of salt crystallization after 3 weeks. Children had fun doing this, they had to be patient and careful, but what is the most important all of them succeed and became smarter.

When working with children, I like to use the Klanza method. The author of the pedagogy of Klanza play is Zofia Zaorska, the founder of the Polish Association of Klanza Pedagogues and Animators. The source of this method was the pedagogy of play, it refers to the theory of humanistic psychology and the trend of Gestalt pedagogy emerging from it (www.klanza.bialystok.pl).

Klanza's play pedagogy is a method of working with groups. The aim of the method is to support children and adolescents in their individual development, develop the child's interests, shape social skills and learn to express themselves through movement and music. There is no competition in it. In classes conducted using this method, there are certain rules that strengthen relationships in the group, teach how to express feelings and build trust in the teacher and participants (www.klanza.bialystok.pl). These principles include: voluntariness, multi-level communication (verbal and non-verbal), avoidance of competition and a variety of means of expression, i.e. touch, gesture, movement, painting, dancing, molding.

During my classes, I like to use animation scarves and props, e.g. a foam cube, colorful balls.

This makes classes more attractive and allows you to achieve educational goals. The scarf is large and colorful, children love it.

Several groups of games with the use of an animation scarf can be distinguished: integration and relaxation games; games practicing perceptiveness, reflexes, agility, teaching cooperation, building trust in the group; motor skills games; drama.

Bibliography:

www.abcmalucha.net

www.klanza.bialystok.pl

www.klanza.org.pl

One of the activating methods I use during my classes is Wordwall. You can use the available exercises and create your own. Wordwall activities can be student assignments. When a teacher assigns an assignment, students are directed to that activity and do not need to visit its homepage. This feature can be used in classrooms where students have access to their own devices, or as homework. Each student's results are recorded and shared with the teacher. Interactive materials - they can be played on any device with Internet access, such as a computer, tablet, telephone or interactive board. Students can play them alone or under the supervision of a teacher in a standard lesson. Ready-made templates - templates contain well-known classic exercises, such as: Test, Crossword, Matching, True or False, Roulette, Game show and many others. Here are some exercises I have prepared for the classes.

https://wordwall.net/pl/resource/9817758

https://wordwall.net/pl/resource/9817169

https://wordwall.net/pl/resource/9817422

My students love working with the tiny Ozobot Evo robots. The pictures show how children are programming the robots with colored codes so that they move according to the instructions. In this way, children learn to cooperate in a group, train their patience and get used to failures, because programming is not an easy task. In addition to the sequence of colored codes, we also use tablets to program the robots.

School attendance in the Czech Republic is compulsory from the age from 6 to 15. Most children attend state school, but there are also private and church schools. Education at state schools up to 26 is free of charge. Children do not wear uniforms. Handicapped children are integrated.

The school year starts on 1st September and ends on 30th June of the following year. The school year is divided into two terms (September - January, February - June).

A school day is different at different types of schools. The average number of lessons is around thirty a week at a secondary school, primary schools have fewer lessons - from twenty to twenty-six. Lessons start at 8.00 and there are 4 to 6 lessons in a row, followed by a lunch break, usually 45 minutes long, which is one period, and then afternoon classes. Afternoon classes end between 3 and 4 at the latest. Breaks between the lessons last from 5 to 15 minutes.

Pupils and students are evaluated by marks from 1 to 5, 1 is the best and 5 is the worst. We can use verbal evaluation too. Each term students get their school report with marks from both compulsory and elective subjects. Education in our country includes these stages - pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary (universities and colleges).

The content of basic education is set by The Framework Education Programme for Basic Education and school education programmes of individual schools.

Teaching methods and approaches in my school:

Creative teaching

“Real-World” learning

Using digital technologies, Audio & Video Tools, interactive board, tablets

Differentiation - learning student´s mixed abilities

Multi - sensory activities

Work together as a team, cooperative learning

Classes outside the classroom - teaching outside

Role play - drama

Projects

Experiments, research

Brainstormings

Stimulating classroom environment

Good relationships in class and friendly atmosphere

Sense of humour

Positive motivation

Welcome new ideas

Puzzles and games
