Most migrants move only a short distance. In the case of the surviving population migration it was on the shorter end, but Israel is also was a safe zone form them, so it was necessary 

There is a process of absorption, whereby people immediately surrounding a rapidly growing town move into it and the gaps they leave are filled by migrants from more distant areas, and so on until the attractive force [pull factors] is spent. After Germany started to get better latter on people started to move back into the country and repopulate it.  

There is a process of dispersion, which is the inverse of absorption. The Jews migrated to Israel and moved in to the gaps until they did not want to love there anymore (pull force) 

Each migration flow produces a compensating counter-flow. After The wave of migrants migrated out of the country a counter migration moved back in the country to rebuild and get it back on its feet so to say

Long-distance migrants go to one of the great centers of commerce and industry. When the survivors migrated they went to Palestine a more populated area to get jobs and start a new life. 

Natives of towns are less migratory than those from rural areas. After everything settled down there where people who comeback or stayed to build a new country,government etc. 

Females are more migratory than males. When the migration wave started the females (mothers) where more eager to migrate out for the sake of protection their children safety. 

Economic factors are the main cause of migration. After the war people had nothing, they not only moved to get away from the fear and distraction, but they wanted to start a new life in Israel
