To put it simply, no. Many musicians and actors have other jobs, for example, Casey Trela, the singer of the Hi Ho Silver Ohs, has a day job as a DVD quality-control technician, Johnny Bell, the bassist-singer of the Crystal Antlers, has a job as a chimney sweep, (http://www.laweekly.com/music/the-secret-day-jobs-of-indie-musicians-2169638) and Yannick Bisson, the star of Murdoch Mysteries, works as a builder between acting jobs to support his family. Yes, there may be some exceptions, but those are the celebrities. These are random people just like you, me and the celebs once upon a time. There simply isn't enough money. Especially here, in a country with the media saying that the dollar's dropping and everyone's blaming Trudeau for the bad economy, the people need money to live, and music just doesn't cut it anymore, so people are turning to other ways (hopefully jobs) to live. Then what about the celebs? They clearly still have money, since their houses and cars must have cost a lot of money. But, there's something called LOANS. And celebs take a LOAN to pay their bills, while the bank hopes they pay it back. Or, to be more general, to pay their tuition, if you follow the news. In fact, some celebs are still paying their tuition. (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/stars-theyre-just-like-us-they-have-student-debt-2015-03-26) So, musicians, to put it simply, cannot live on music alone.

Most musicians can't live on their music alone. A lot of them have day jobs or second jobs in between their music gigs. (http://www.thecavanproject.com/51-jobs-musicians-had-before-they-were-famous/). Even a couple of the bigger stars had to work day jobs at one point in their lives. For example Elvis Presley was a truck driver, Beyoncé worked at a hair salon, and Kanye West used to work at a Gap clothing store. Yeah, now they're all famous and get loads of money but, it wasn't like that when they started out. It's extremely hard to make it as a musician. Until you've got a record deal or a label it's hard to make the money you need to support yourself and your family. And even with a record deal (like we learned in class) only 12% of the money goes to the artist. They need to work other jobs to make the money. I'm not saying every single artist has worked a day job to pay for rent or something like that. I'm just saying musicians are not getting all the money they deserve for their music so they have to resort to other methods to get money. Possibly bad, illegal methods. For example, Jay-Z was once a drug dealer. So in conclusion, no, most musicians can't live off the money they make from their own music.

Can musicians live on music alone? Very interesting question. Let's weigh the facts and come to a decision based on information on both sides. Let's start with no. On one hand, there are the people like Sandra Bullock who own small restaurants, or Justin Timberlake who co-created Southern Hospitality BBQ. (http://www.refinery29.com/2013/07/50179/celebrity-second-jobs#slide) There are also people who got it good in the music biz. There are people like Justin Bieber, or Taylor Swift who have their pockets stuffed with dough and their bank accounts filled to the brim, and they don't need anything else to survive. Then again, in a world where the big companies own everything and pull money out of your pockets 'till you're broke, it would be helpful to have a second job, because artists only get 24% of the money from their songs. There are also those things like apple music and spotify which keep killing the musicians until they're dead. People also download music illegally because they are too lazy to pay the artists. (http://mrmigdal/mr.migdal.ca) For all these reasons, I think your average musician would need a day job to survive in this cruel world of ours.

The question for today is can musicians live off of only music? Well no, you see the music industry is so big and the problem is more and more people are trying to get in the music industry. It's hard really hard, a small town rapper I listen to is Mr. Criminal he has been rapping for about 7 years now he has a total net worth of 800,000$ (http://www.the-net-worth.com/2016/06/mr-criminal/) but it took him 7 years to get that money so when he started out he was just a drug dealer. A lot of famous musicians these days worked a second job to provide for example Eminem was working at Detroit stamping center, logic (another rapper I know) was working at a fast food restaurant, Madonna was working as a dunkin donuts waitress etc...... another problem is if you are signed to a big record company you get almost 12% for your music especially in this day and age where so many rappers/artists are going solo for example Macklemore and Ryan Lewis or chance the rapper. Unless you have your own record company like Dr.Dre who owns aftermath records or Mr. Capone-e who owns thump records or Eminem who owns Shady records you are not going to get most of the money. Anyways I am done hope you enjoyed it and I would like if you guys would check out a link of a website that helped me out.http://colemizestudios.com/rappers-never-make/.
also a video
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=video+about+the+music+industry&&view=detail&mid=85CE20D3C31E538E9D0385CE20D3C31E538E9D03&rvsmid=85CE20D3C31E538E9D0385CE20D3C31E538E9D03&fsscr=0&FORM=VDMCNL

Can musicians really live on music alone? No. Many musicians had other jobs before being well known and who they are right now. They had to go in a series of ups and downs before making their way to where they are. https://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2011/06/musicians-jobs-before-they-were-famous.html
For example. Ozzy Osbourne was a slaughterhouse worker, Mick Jagger was a porter at a mental hospital and Bon Jovi worked as a Christmas decoration maker. Yes, now they're famous but musicians don't get money like that when they started. Musicians had to earn their money by doing something else. They support their families and had to make a living for themselves. It's difficult to be a successful musician. Even with a record label or deal, musicians don't make much out of it. So, these had to do other things musicians to support themselves as they don't make enough for rent and all that. They needed to make money with other methods. It's not every musician, but there are those who struggle in such cases. Such as, Snoop Dog who was a drug dealer and a grocery shop worker. Also there are those people who get their music illegally and which the artist well, is not fortunate. In conclusion, musicians had to struggle their way to where they are and can't survive on music alone.

Can musicians live on music alone?
The shortest answer I can think of is no. Money is everywhere today and currently not having a sufficient amount of it, is a problem. The music industry can make you a lot of money, that is if you can make it being a musician. People such as Justin Beiber and Kanye west have both been successful in the music industry and have made loads of money, but they are the big titles which we all know thanks to the media and publicity their music has gotten. What about the musicians who's music hasn't been so promoted by the media? The music industry is hard and most musicians have to have day jobs to be able to support themselves financially. Many singers such as Matt Reynolds the lead singer of the band called Baby Godzilla has a day job working at a Ping-Pong hall, as the rest of the band members work at Mcdonalds. "To keep us fed, watered and sheltered" he said . Even big titles that we know had day jobs when they were first starting out in 2007 Calvin Harris worked as a shelf-stacker and his album was written and produced in his home studio. Also Art-Garfunkel who was part of Simon and Garfunkel was a math teacher when his song 'Bridge over troubled water' hit number one. Even big titles like Kanye west had day jobs at some point he used to be a, gap sales assistant. Rod stewart used to be a gravedigger, Kele okereke used to be a cinema assistant and worked selling popcorn and drinks until his album 'silent alarm' was released and voted NME's album of the year, in 2005. So to sum this up I would say that there is high chance of most musicians having day jobs to be able to pay their bills.
All information from: (http://www.nme.com/photos/28-boring-day-jobs-musicians-did-before-they-were-famous-1427661)

Can a musician live on music alone?
To be honest, I never thought of that question but I highly doubt it. You would have to be really successful in the world of music. People would have to know you and your songs would have to be spreading in media which would take a while if you ask me. In shorter terms no, not really. I can't really chose yes or no, it just depends on who you are.
Maybe singers that were more fortunate such as Arianna Grande and Selena Gomez can have a chance to live on as a musician, they both are really talented. Megan and Liv the singers of the song Battlefield, were really talented but, never really got the spotlight they deserved so they went on and got jobs.
I know Demi Lovato is one outstanding celebrity, she's pretty and has a strong and magnificent voice. Her songs go viral on the internet she still does other thing in her life besides singing. When she was just a young girl she was a star on the Disney Channel . As growing up she was on more shows on TV until September 23 2008, she published her first album. (http://www.biography.com/people/demi-lovato-481444)
For one concert the singer can get $100 to $800k. For example Adele gets$750k, Demi Lovato gets 100k to 200k and Drake gets 300k to 500k, which is good for a man who cant exactly sing.(http://www.billboard.com/articles/business/6605326/how-much-do-artists-make-music-industry-earnings) I guess that's good but how much concerts does a average musician have? Well theres not really a answer for that question because it would be complicated to search for. What I can say is that a average singer makes $31,799 per year in Canada but in the states it's $38,820.
Even though celebrities have tons of money from songs and singing but they do have other tings they do to get a few extra bucks, by I few extra bucks I mean a ton of extra bucks by acting.
You might think that would be enough to live a lifetime but no it wasn't for some of them.

Can musicians live on music alone?
Well to be honest it depends on how famous you are, For example if you are an artist like drake or beyonce then of course you can survive on music alone. But lets say that you are new to music and you are staring to develop your career, then it would be hard because you may not even be assigned to a record label yet. There fore it would be very hard to survive on music alone. Although when you think about it music is there career, So they would obviously depend on what they make from it. Just like a Doctor, a Doctor survives on what they make. So even though it might take them a while at some point they could probably live on music alone. But for most musicians don't make it as for as they would like to, like you can go on The voice and come in the top 3 but you still wouldn't make it as far as depending on music alone. So no you can be a good musician but not everybody will like you or the type of music you sing. There for only Very famous people that have a very high income could live on music alone, but not every musician is a very famous musician so no Not all musicians can live on music alone.

Can musicians live on music alone?
of course not! Mainly because you always need to start somewhere. Many artists don't start out as singers/musicians, but go into it with the mind that they might not get in; so they always have a backup plan-another job. Many fall into acting first, but sometimes play a big role, which enhances their voices, and get discovered. Then it's all about singing. To be a musician is difficult, but if you get in, you must always have another job to fall into, or otherwise make yourself popular and well-known. Charm is also very important; your music might be great, but your looks and ability to connect with the audience is important. As well as being appealing. So having great music is not the only thing that matters. Artists that are not that advertised, or known, don't get as much for new songs because not a lot of people recognize them, so unless you're popular, money won't come as easily. Many artists like that need another job to support them or their families. So surviving on music is usually hard unless you're super popular, have charm(or are appealing). So to summarize this(for those who don't wanna read all of that),no, musicians need a back up plan, or another job to support themselves, they can't survive on music alone.

Can musicians live on music alone?
Come to think of it, my answer would be no. You can live on music alone but only if you are one of the really lucky and successful people. For example. some musicians have a second job because they are not the people that make million. If you just started your music career at like age 20, you just start getting into it. It is better to start at a young age so you can have every thing planned out, and how it's going to be. It might take a long time to become very successful in the music career, like for example doctor or lawyer. If a lawyer fails once or twice that does not matter, one case they win, they also win a bunch of cash. So the main reason why I say no, id because it's all up to the person, at when they start, and it they know how to get money ex. pulling some strings or using auto tune. I still say aw hail nah.

I still think that these musicians can live on music alone. Every time people talk about this, I think that they are referring that these famous people that play music and make money on a level where they make millions a year. I'm sure that sometimes you need to buy instruments when you're in a band or if you play an instrument. What will pay for the basic things you need? Well funny you ask...WHY DON'T YOU GET A JOB?

Many musicians starting off get jobs because mommy and daddy aren't rich and even if they were they don't think that you can make it or that this could ever be a good enough job.

"Some one has been watching too much TV!" RIGHT!

But this is true! In this movie even the main character Drew was working in a Rock club. I'm not sure if musicians can relate to this movie, but it is right on track with the idea of musicians having to work as a backup just to earn some money. This movie does take place in the 80's so things that happened in this movie might be a little different in this era.

In the end I know now that only really popular musicians could live only on music alone, those people have the type of money that could let them last from only living on music. But I mean if that's you passion and that's what you think your meant to do well than do it.

I mean if this little brat could make it......
If he can <del>sing</del> or whatever he calls what he does than I guess my dog is also a musician!

The world needs to start looking for the real musicians.

can musicians live on music alone?
in my opinion is no because they still need money or if there really famous they don't but the low level one's do, like a back up storage. because now a days its all about that $$$. they also need something else in there life other than music like if you eat the same food forever, you're not going to be very healthy, same with music. they also should have a day job like teaching music or planning parties and playing in it. *chough, chough, chucky cheese*.
some musicians do multitask, listen to there jam while making jam, or working out and other things they also need they also need simple to keep there career and jobs. they also had really boring jobs before the became a musician. for example jay z work as a drug dealer before he started his career. (http://www.nme.com/photos/28-boring-day-jobs-musicians-did-before-they-were-famous-1427661)

Can musicians live on music alone?
In my eyes, i think absolutely not, or at least not at first. The big shots in the music industry might be able to, but for the smaller artists and those who are are just starting off will most certainly need a day job to back up their career. Having a day job isn't a unusual thing, some of the biggest artists started off with backup jobs just in case their music didn't work out. For example, Freddy Mercury owned a market stall before and at the start of his career. (http://www.nme.com/photos/28-boring-day-jobs-musicians-did-before-they-were-famous-1427661)
We have to remember that musicians are humans and require simple things to survive, such as food, a roof over their head and they obviously have to pay taxes. All of these services require money that a small musician is incapable of making without a second job. The average developing artist makes some cash from their work, but its certainly not enough to live off of. In the end, any small and up coming artist is most likely not able to live off of their music alone, but the big shots and newer more popular artists are the only ones capable of living off their music.

I don't think that musicians can live on music alone. Many musicians have a second job right not such as: Justin Timberlake who has a job as an all-around mogul http://www.bankrate.com/finance/personal-finance/9-celebrities-with-second-jobs-2.aspx Fela from Red Hot Chiili Peppers who has a job as a beekeeper, and even Beyone as a vegan food delivery person http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/25/showbiz/celebrity-news-gossip/celebrities-side-jobs-moonlighting/ .
According to http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Musician_or_Singer/Salary, the average musician makes around $38 820 (U.S dollars) which is not that much. According to http://careers.workopolis.com/advice/how-much-money-are-we-earning-the-average-canadian-wages-right-now/
the average Canadian in Ontario makes about $50 589 A YEAR! That's about $12 000 more (Canadian $)
Some musicians could have a a lot of money saved or maybe they got a lone and that's how a lot of them can afford a a good house and very expensive cars, and then they use their money form making music to pay back. Yet, if they do get loans of a lot of money then just using the money from making music won't be enough to pay back.
Maybe some musicians could make enough money off of music, but from what i can find, most of them have a second job.

I don't think musicians can only live off of just music. A lot of musicians but not all may have second jobs, such as Fela from Red Hot Chiili Peppers has a second job as beekeeper cause he doesn't make enough from singing so he works a second job (http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/25/showbiz/celebrity-news-gossip/celebrities-side-jobs-moonlighting/). But it's possible to just live off of singing alone but only if your a big hit and very popular (Ex. Drake, Rihanna, Chris brown). The average salary of a musician a week is $746.53 or $38 820 a year According to http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Musician_or_Singer/Salary

Can musicians live off of music alone?
Actually, it is indeed possible. Many people can't live off music alone so they have second jobs but many popular musicians like Justin Bieber and Drake don't need second jobs, just music because they make enough to live off it. Most well known musicians probably did need second jobs or some kind of loan when they first started in the music industry so they can support themselves. As they grew more and more popular they made more and more money, therefore pointless to for a second job. Overall, more people do need another job or a loan but it is possible to just live off music. Remember, popular musicians that have no need for a second job because they can live off music sometimes do have second jobs. Its not asking if they want, its asking if they need to.

Can musicians live off of music alone?
Possibly. As you know already, many musicians have second jobs. But those are some musicians. How about others you may ask? Well some famous and popular musicians such as Justin Bieber, Drake, Rihanna, and many more don't need any. They make millions and millions of dollars every year which they can live off. They make enough money to by very expensive items such as cars, clothes, fragrances, electronics and more. A lot of them even have there own servants and mansions. So do I think they can live off of it alone? Not at first. If you read Victor's article you see that he says "Most well known musicians probably did need second jobs or some kind of loan when they first started in the music industry so they can support themselves. As they grew more and more popular they made more and more money, therefore pointless to for a second job." this backs up that you can't live off at first. But if you are a famous musician and make millions of dollars you can live off of music alone. But if you are a beginner in the music industry, its better if you get another job,

Can musicians live on music alone?
In my opinion, no, musicians cannot live on music alone because I lot of celebrities usually have second jobs between their music times. Always, I'm pretty sure that all celebrities have jobs before that had their music career.
Such as for example, Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani are all-around moguls http://www.bankrate.com/finance/personal-finance/9-celebrities-with-second-jobs-7.aspx.
According to the internet, both musicians and singers average $31.74 an hour, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, but high salaries can sometimes skew the average, and median wage is often a better indication of earnings. Half of all musicians and singers earn $22.99 an hour.
I was reading about successful musicians in the industry who still have to work day jobs. Like how, Taylor Swift or Beyoncé are incredibly high earners, but they are anomalies and should be regarded as such.
So, celebrities also struggle with as we talked in class that some people illegally download music, which means the musicians are also losing a lot of money. Therefore, it is very hard to become a triumphant musician.
In conclusion, musicians struggle to make money and this why musicians cannot live on music alone.

The answer is a big no. Not all musicians are as good as drake and Jacob satorius. Most musicians that are not known make about 50-100 dollars a gig while drake makes 150000 dollars per gig that is about 149900 difference. A lot of musicians have also had two jobs like Justin timberlake,Bono and The Edge.http://www.bankrate.com/finance/personal-finance/9-celebrities-with-second-jobs-1.aspx.
