According to my responses to the quiz, I have mostly a growth mindset. I think having a growth mindset brings much more happiness and joy to your daily life. When I was a classroom teacher of course there were great days but there were also challenging days. On those challenging days it was important to reflect on my mindset because I would not want to negatively impact the students. As I read the questions on the quiz, it made me think about feedback teachers provide students in the classroom. As an instructional coach I am in different classrooms on a daily basis and I am able to hear the way teachers are providing feedback to students. I love when I hear them encouraging their hard work and effort versus saying "you're so smart".

After taking the quiz, I got 3 fixed mindset and 8 growth mindset. I found that some of the questions were kind of tough to answer! There were questions that asked about knowledge then there were questions that asked about talent. The questions about talent took me significantly longer to answer then the knowledge ones.
The questions in relation to knowledge were simple: with dedication and time, I know I can gain knowledge on anything. With all of the resources and tools out there, knowledge is at our fingertips! It's freeing to know this, as it opens up so many doors!
The questions in relation to talent were a different story for me: when I think of talent, I think of natural born talent. I found that this a place where I have more of a fixed mindset. It didn't feel as good, and it definitely made me feel more closed off to opportunities.

With applying these mindsets to my own classroom, I know many of my students come into my math class with a closed mindset. It's sad to admit how many parents and students told me at the beginning of the year that "They aren't good at math." When they give themselves (or are given) this label, its hard to push past and feel confident in their ability. I am excited for this course to help me, help them change their mindset!

After taking the quiz, I have mostly a growth mindset. That isn't super surprising, based on the focus we've had at school and my action research project. I can say that if I have taken this when I was in middle school, I would probably not have gotten the same results. Which is exactly why I think it is so important for growth mindset to be a focus in my classroom.

After taking the mindset quiz, I agreed entirely with the growth mindset statements and none of the fixed mindset statements. I am not surprised by this, as this has become an area of interest for me and I have been trying to incorporate aspects of this idea into my classroom and everyday life. This is not only good for me, but then I am also modeling this concept for my students. I think developing a growth mindset is a lifelong skill that some adults have challenges with as well. It is important to me that I teach my students this because in middle school they are at such a pivotal age developmentally and I think they could take away a lot from this idea.

My results were that I had 0 fixed mindset and 7 growth mindset statements.

This is not a big surprise to me as I have always found it easy to find the positive in most situations. I am someone who wants others to feel encouraged and successful so I am always trying to encourage people to continue to grow. I also enjoy tough problems because I like to figure out creative ways to solve them.
I am also more aware of having a growth mindset because every day I get the chance to work with 20 amazing first graders and I need to be aware of how I talk to them and around them. I want to be a good role model for them and show them that even adults can have a growth mindset.

After taking the quiz, I learned that I have mostly a growth mindset. I really try to have a growth mindset, but know that there are times of self doubt that get in the way. I really try to reflect and think about how I can continue to improve and grow versus dwell on how bad a lesson may have gone. I think as an educator making sure to have a growth mindset over a fixed mindset it important in growing and improving for both you and your students. As an educator If we don't focus on a growth mindset we will stay stagnant and slowly develop a fixed mindset.

I thought I would have more for fixed mindset while also having a balance with growth mindset.

I am someone who can get stuck in my own head while teaching and leading the group of 7-8 year olds in my class and forget to bring to attention all the positive moments in our day. However, I do try to make a point to bring up the word "yet" as much as possible when I make a mistake in front of them or when I am working with my students. Also, I try to always make a point to express we have more time to make positive choices. Whether that time be the remaining 4 hours of the school day, the remaining 30 minutes of a math lesson, or the next school day.

In this course, I look forward to working on my ability to use and bring out the growth mindset opportunities with a little more ease!

I feel like the base point of this quiz is to show that foundationally the key to a Growth Mindset is the belief that you can grow. Things such as intellegence and Talent are not fixed traits but can be fostered.

One thing that I taught my students this following year is that it's not a magical You can be anything you want to be if you put your mind to it, but more a you can be anything you want to be but it might take a lot of work and sacrifice to accomplish it.

I have taken this test before and scored all growth mindset so I am trying to figure out what was different this time around. I have a feeling it had to do with the talent statements. Maybe this is because I am getting older and find it more difficult to grow my talents at this stage in the game. I would love to have my third grade teammates take this quiz and see how they feel about their results.

I scored a 0 in fixed mindset and 8 in growth mindset. I think one of the main reasons I think this way is because I don't think of the word "intelligence" as meaning one, set measurement. I believe in the multiple intelligences theory and feel that there are a variety of ways to measure intelligence. I have seen students who have been labeled with "low intelligence" shine in so many other ways. These students may need to find other ways to learn or grown in a classroom setting, but that only reinforces the idea that they are quite intelligent AND working with a growth mindset.

I scored a 2 in fixed mindset and a 6 in growth mindset! Yay! I think this puts me in a great place to start my formal educational journey with mindset! I thought the questions were very confusing. They used a lot of filler words which made it difficult for me to process the prompts. If I were using this with students, I think I would have to simplify the questions to make them easier to understand.

Generally, I feel passionate about owning a growth mindset, but I also feel as though our school structure pressures students into feeling like a failure if they struggle. I am excited to learn more about growth mindset so that I can use it in my classroom and share it with my colleagues.

I scored 2 for Fixed Mindset and 7 for Growth Mindset. This seems to fit my personality when it comes to the way that I approach most things. I'm an optimistic person that will look at the glass is half full. This comes in handy when encouraging students that are so quick to put themselves down while trying to accomplish a task. I love working with students one on one and get to personally see how they navigate challenging tasks in my class. I wish to find more subtle ways to phrase questions and statements towards students to encourage a sense of perseverance when it comes to accomplishing a difficult task.

0 for Fixed, 7 for Growth. Interestingly, the "talent" questions got me the most. As a musician, I do see students coming to my classroom with innate musical skills. I believe that you are definitely born with a certain aptitude for music, and though it is not the only factor in succeeding musically, it is a substantial one.

On the flip side of this, I see many "talented" music students fall away, while the hard-working, growth-mindset students surpass them over time. I know for myself, I have struggled a lot with fixed mindset in the past and fight my own insecurities and perceptions of my talent level in my professional career. This is not baby stuff, this is a life-long journey to cultivate growth mindset.

I scored a 0 for fixed mindset, and an 8 for growth mindset. I think I still have some work to do on how best to live with that strong growth mindset more consistently for myself and for my students. I want to be an inspiration to all of my students that they can always improve, regardless of what level they may currently be at. I also want to accept a stronger sense of a growth mindset in myself to remember that I can always get better at something.

I scored 8 in fixed mindset and 0 in growth mindset. This makes me a little sad because from briefly skimming the book I know you can change your mindset. I guess I have struggled in most things that I do that I don't feel like my brain can change that much. No matter how hard I study or try to do something, it doesn't seem like I pick up on it. I'm so excited to learn how I can make that happen!
