This she reveals in a conversation with the narrator's second cousin Melville, a friend of the family who adopts "Miss Waters". As a supernatural being, she is unimpressed with the fact that Chatteris is engaged to the socially-minded Miss Adeline Glendower and is trying to make amends for his wastrel youth by entering politics. With mere words, the mermaid shakes both Chatteris and Melville's faith in their society's norms and expectations, enigmatically telling them that "there are better dreams". The Sea Lady is the main character in this novel. She caused all the scenes so she is in a way dramatic. She is quite romantic as she falls in love with Huldbrand. She is also indecisive when she first wanted Mr. Chatteris than wanted Sir Huldbrand.
Undine-
Undine is a very unique character in this novel, as she goes through Sir Huldbrand rejected her and going for the Sea Lady. She then warns him as a threat.
Sir Huldbrand-
Huldbrand was described as noble and and knight. He married the Sea Lady after rejecting Undine.

Hannah Shepherd and Devah Pager explain that discrimination has been a large part of the U.S. as it is wide spread. They have done multiple surveys covering discrimination on jobs. Mentioning how certain percent of workers have been passed by jobs just cause of their race. Cases like these seem to affect many people with their families just cause of their race..
