Discussion Highlights:
- First discussion about why Jon / Mr. Manhattan went to Mars. We felt that he went for two main reasons. The first reason was that he felt he was harming other when the news came out that  he was causing cancer. The second reason was that he felt lonely and that he didn’t belong on earth.
- Second Discussion- Rorschach believes that someone is planning and committing these murder, and that they are not random acts. I also believe this, it is not probable that these vigilantes are being killed.
- In the setting of the book, the Cold War is going on against Russia, and the Comedian and Dr. Manhattan were being used to help the United States. People were comparing Dr. Manhattan to God, and that God was with America. 
- Rorschach has lost hope in peoples Morals in this time period. We discussed what was going on in people or/and in the world that might be causing this. In this section of the story, the literary device of imagery helps develop it. On these pages Dr. Manhattan or Jon, has left earth and went to Mars to be alone. These pages use imagery to show his loneliness on Mars. Ever since he became Dr, Manhattan he has lost relationships with people because of his new appearance. He has become a weapon for the United States military, and finally been blamed for killing people. This was all too much for him and he needed to get away. This imagery shows what he’s feeling right now, by himself, distant from everybody, and doesn’t know what should and needs to do.

4. Today’s meeting was based more around story development rather than thematic interpretation. We believe this was good because the story is finally starting to reach a point where it is all coming together.

- Our first discussion was about how the relationships of these characters could possibly lead to the end of humanity. One of the examples of this is Dr. Manhattan not thinking of saving the earth anymore because Laurie broke up with him and is with Dan now.
- We talked about how Dan and Laurie broke Rorschach out of prison and how Rorschach killed most of the people who tried to jump him in prison.
- we also discussed what we thought the theme of this novel is. We all came to the conclusion that it was in the lines of something dark. We could not quite put our finger on the exact theme yet.
- We talked about the moral complications that go on through this graphic novel. In this section the author uses the literary device flashbacks to develop the story. In this section of the text, it talks about the childhood of Veidt. The description of his childhood explains why Veidt is determined to do what he does. He grew up orphaned and rich, and wanted to be useful, not just live the rest of his life in luxury. He idolized Alexander of Macedonia and wanted his contribution to the world be more than Alexander’s. The flashback shows the motives for all of Veidt’s decision and makes it make more sense.

- What everyone thought about the book, everyone has enjoyed it so far.
- In the story Rorschach believes that the kill on the Comedian was a political one. Everyone also agreed that it was a political kill.
- Mutual agreement that the setting will stay dystopian, but the tone/mood will become more epic rather than mysterious
- The book has become clearer the more we read. The beginning of the book was very vague and resulted in slight confusion.
