    A drug interferes with your body by changing the way it sends and receives messages. If you have used a drug before you build up a tolerance to it meaning you have to use more to get the same effect. people take drugs for medical reasons for example; Anti-depressants or ADHD meds, drugs can also be used recreationally to get a rush. Some common drugs used by australians 12-17 would be, Nicotine, Alcohol, Marijuana, Tobacco, MDMA and Ketamine

    Drugs are chemicals or substances that change the way our bodies work. Some are medicines that help people when doctors prescribe them. Many have no medical use or benefits. Factors that can interfere with the effects of a drug are depending on what type of drug is consumed, the quantity of drug use, tolerance, gender, size and amount of muscle, etc. Many people take drugs for medical use but a lot also use them for the effect and for the experience. I think some common drugs used by Australian teens are alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, and many more.

    Why do people take drugs? 
    For most people, using drugs is just another way of altering consciousness that is not so different from many other recreational activities. However, for the relatively small number of people who develop more compulsive drug-using patterns, drug use is not just about having fun, relaxing or for 'partying'. It usually serves a deeper purpose (such as helping enhance identity, acceptance, and reducing psychological distress or a sense of alienation).

    What drugs do you think Australian 12-17 year Olds take?
    Alcohol, cannabis and tobacco are the three most commonly used drugs among young people. According to the National Drug Strategy Household Survey 2016 , of Australians aged 12 to 17 years: 80% of females and 83% of males were choosing not to drink alcohol.

The first of those reasons is for medical uses, while the second is for recreational use. I think that 12-17 year olds primarily take drugs like nicotine and alcohol, as they are readily available.
