33 AD, Rome was the most powerful civilization of the ancient world ruled by Emperor Tiberius Claudius Nero. In this era, government was powerful and sought wealth and land. This resulted in the Roman Empire controlling nearly all of Western Europe until approximately 476 CE. Citizens of the empire spoke Latin and Greek with dialect regions speaking Gallic, Aramaic, Punic, Trilingualism and other languages. Scripts were written in Hebrew, Latin or Greek as they were common tongues throughout the empire. Main regions included Galatia, Cappadocia, Pisidia and Macedonia. Main cities in the empire included Antioch, Seleucia, Lystra and Ephesus. To visit these regions, people would either travel by boat, on horseback or walk using a network of roman roads built by slaves.

Saul, a roman citizen, was persecuting a group of Jesus' disciples who were on the road to Damascus. On his way, he was struck down by a blinding white light and a vision came to him; "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" Saul then asked who the voice was. The reply, "I am Jesus, who you are persecuting. Rise and go into the city and there you will be told what to do." From there Saul did as he was told, he was bapsited which marked the beginning of his spiritual journey. He then continued travelling nearly seventeen thousand kilometers to grow the Christian "cult" by preaching the messages of God revealed to us through Jesus.

Paul began his first journey in 44 AD with his companion Barnabas. He traveled around the Mediterranean Sea by boat and preached in Jewish synagogues. Paul was a Roman citizen which provided him with freedom of movement and extra safety on these journeys. He began in Antioch and then traveled to Selucia, Cyprus, Perga, Pisidian Antioch, Iconium and then Lystra. On this journey Paul spread the gospel which lead to the conversion of Gentiles, Pagans and Jews to Christians and he helped establish small Christian communities. This journey took him approximately two years and in that time he covered nearly 2235 km by boat and on land.

While Paul was not in certain cities, he wrote letters to communities to remind them about the Christian message, which is what he preached. Paul wrote thirteen letters which make up thirteen books in the New Testament. It is thought that most of these were written when he was in Rome awaiting to trial before Emperor Nero. All of these letters followed a simple structure; first was a greeting, then a prayer, a message and finally a greeting and instruction. The purpose of these letters was to inform and encourage established Christian communities about what God wanted them to do and how they should execute his message. The main message Paul promoted in all of his letters is that we are all equal and we all belong to a community.

Throughout Paul's epistles he reveals his thoughts on people converting to Christianity. One thing which he stresses is that if you are a gentile or pagan you don't have to adopt Jewish traditions such as circumcision to become Christian. This is something which many men believed as they thought that if they were not circumcised, God would not let them feel his love. This is false because as Paul says in Colossians 3:11, " there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all."

Although a murderer, we can take away many messages St Paul left for us. In 1 Corinthians Paul writes, "if you obey the laws of Jesus, you will not only do what is right, but also find true happiness and peace." This message applies to everyone, especially people who experience depression and certain people who are leaders of world religions and countries. Happiness and peace is something which is extremely hard to achieve especially with all of the violence going on in our world. To make this message simple to live out we should all do our best to promote happiness and peace because it will make the lives of people who are depressed happier and world leaders aware of what their people want which is to live in a happy and peaceful world.
