In contrast to other people my age, I would say I’m not the most active using social networks. The only platforms I use are Whatsapp and Instagram, and lately I’ve been trying to reduce the time I spend using them.

On the one hand I use Whatsapp for communication, mainly with the closest people in my life; like family, friends and classmates. On the other hand, I use Instagram for watching content I’m interested in and for sharing matters that I find interesting with my closest friends. The most useful thing in Instagram, in my opinion, is the close friends list. As I’m not really interested in sharing content with people I barely know and with this tool you share content exclusively with a list of friends of your choice, not everyone that follows you .

Speaking of following, I don’t let everyone that requests following me do it. In this matter, I’m without a doubt aware of the risks of the web and recognize some guidelines for my security. I don’t want people I don’t personally know to suddenly talk to me. I am aware that not everyone who pretends to be on instagram is real, and you never know who’s behind an account and a profile picture.

I would say that besides the digital era we’re living in, I try to keep my relationship with everyone I consider important in my life, as pure as it can be. When I’m surrounded by friends I forget about the existence of my phone and try to enjoy the moment as much as I can. Also, I try to reduce my screen time more and more everyday, but I have to admit that I waste about 2 - 3 hours every day looking at my phone.

Althought sometimes the use of the phone is almost compulsory to communicate, most of the time it isn’t. As hard as it is to admit, almost everyone is a bit addicted to social media and the worst thing about it is that we are aware of that, but we can’t change it.

The internet is dangerous, it has been repeated to us since we started using it as teens. As adults, we are more aware of how dangerous it is and I personally see how perjudicial it is for our mental health. Nowadays I am more aware of what I post or what I share in my social media, because what happens on the internet stays there forever.
