         <description><![CDATA[<div>My name is Romika. I was born in Nassau, Bahamas. I have 3 children, two teenagers and one toddler. I am currently an operations manager for a security company that I've been with since 2019. I am studying to become a social worker. My goal is to become a mental health counselor. The home campus I attend is North campus. After I have completed my associate degree with MDC, I am transferring to FIU for my bachelors. What I am most proud of, is being a single parent and still maintaining a work/life/school balance. My strength is getting through obstacles. My weakness is thinking I can help everyone by making everyone else problem mine. Giving my kids the childhood I didn't have is extremely important to me. I enjoy spending time with my kids, we like to do things like go out to eat and watch movies together.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br>Claim is a statement that answers the question. Evidence is the scientific data that supports your claim. Reasoning explains how and or why evidence supports a claim. Claim, reasoning, and evidence can be used in biololgy. For example all plants require light for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process within a plant that converts light, oxygen, and water into energy. Without sufficient light the plant cannot grow and could die. Some plants and flowers require more light than others. Plants how ever can survive for short periods of time without light. Optional light sources can be direct sunlight or artificial light such as plant lights. Plants are one of the most essential living organisms on earth. They produce oxygen which is neccessary for survival. There are many parts of plants such as roots, stems, leaves etc. Each part works together and performs different functions. Claim, evidence, reasoning can be used in biology.&nbsp;<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There are over 50,000 known species of crustaceans. Crustaceans are made up of a large group of Anthropods (invertebrate animals with exoskeleton. Crawfish, lobsters, crabs, and shrimp are my favorites to eat. The bodies usually have 3 sections; the head, thorax, and abdomen.          <description><![CDATA[<div>https://youtu.be/Qi0edf_nJDo<br><br>When is a pandemic over? According to the video, there are 3 scenarios that could potentially end a pandemic. <em>Race through it:</em> Do nothing, let people get exposed as quick as possible. This would cause death for some and build the immune system for others. I do not think this is the best option at all. The first scenario is how they handled it when the COVID first happen. There were many lives lost. <em>Delay &amp; Vaccinate: </em>Slow the spread of infection by testing, quarantining, and social distancing. While producing a vaccine. This scenario also happened. While it's a good idea, majority of people were open to the vaccine but many were not due to there personal reasons. <em>Coordinate &amp; Crush</em>: Starve the virus by restricting travel, quarantine, social distance. This is just unrealistic to me. Can't restrict people from travel, some travel for work, vacation, and visiting family. The pandemic broke out in 2019 and is still ongoing. Since the outbreak, several new variants have been discovered. So when will it really be over?&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The ecosystems for crustaceans are wetlands, fresh and salt water lakes, caves, and rivers. They live in inland or ocean waters from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Elevations as high as the Himalayas to well below the sea level. Crustaceans are members of the Planktonic (drift in current) and Benthic (under or near ocean surface) communities. The most popular marine animals are lobsters, crayfish, crabs, and shrimp. The small crustaceans breathe through their body while the larger ones breathe through their gills. While majority of crustaceans habitat is aquatic a few have learned to adapt on land. For example, the terrestrial crabs and terrestrial hermit crab burrow in the sand on beaches. Burrow means they dig a hole or tunnel and use a dwelling (place of residence). Crustaceans obtain food as detritivores, herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores. It was about feedback loops, which is the process of where outputs are recycled and used as inputs. For example, predator vs the prey. An increase in prey means more food for predators.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The species I selected was crustaceans. My reasoning is because i'm a seafood lover. I wanted to learn more about the species. Climate change affects many including crustaceans. It is estimated that every year the ocean absorbs as much carbon dioxide as the forest. When the ocean absorbs CO<sub>2&nbsp;</sub>&nbsp;it makes it more acidic, this is called "ocean acidification".. Unfortunately for my chosen species this is not good because it makes it difficult for these aquatic animals such as crabs, clams, and other shellfish to grow strong shells. Crustaceans use their shells as a their main home and for protection. As a result of not having hard/strong shells, they could die. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Crabs belong to a group of crustaceans called decapods. Decapods have 5 pairs of thoraric legs, making them "10 footed". Crabs are not a real biological group, they are actually branches of the decapod tree that evolved to look the same. Over time, many groups belonging to the decapod family have seperately evolved into crabs. Sponge crabs, porcelain crabs, king crabs, and Australian hairy stone crab has all evolved. Like the "true crab" their compact bodies are defensive and they can move side ways faster. Carcinization is when crustaceans evolve into crab like form from non crab like form. According to wikipedia, most scientist believe that king crabs evolved from hermit crabs (Cenozoic). Porcelain crabs looks like crabs but are more closely related to squat lobster and hermit crabs (Jurrasic). Although some species evolve into crabs they can also un-evolve, this is called decarcinization.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Biology is a branch of science and the study of living things. Biology is very broad due to the wide variety of life found on earth. In class, we went over many aspects of biology from species, ecosystems, viruses, just to name a few. This class was interesting in many ways. I had many thoughts, feelings, experiences about biology before taking this class, during this class, and after this class.&nbsp;</div><div>I had never used or heard of Padlet before taking this class, but I really liked it. Prior to taking this class, I knew very little about biology. Biology is not my strong subject, I was expecting this course to be difficult. I wasn't knowledgeable about the type of viruses, how they came about and how they were cured. I wasn't familiar with process of feedback loops. I thought for sure I would fail this class or not receive a good grade.&nbsp;</div><div>I guess I was over thinking it because I was already quite familiar with most of the topics that were discussed. Each day of class, I was eager to learn more and more. At the beginning of the class, I had to pick a species. My chosen species was crustaceans. I was able to study crustaceans and learn more about the different types of crustaceans. I also learned about their ecosystem which is basically their environment. All throughout the course I gathered more information about my chosen species.&nbsp;</div><div>Now that we are at that end of the course, I am confident to move on to my next biology course. I wouldn't say that biology is now my strong subject but I am definitely more educated. I can now educate my kids and others because of the knowledge I have gained. The professor made the class a breeze. He was organized and made the class interesting with the different activities.&nbsp;</div><div>I originally took this course because it was a requirement. I would've never chosen this class if it wasn't required because science was my least favorite subject. I'm glad I took the course because it's pretty cool and teaches you things that are important. Now that class is done, I will be doing more research on my own. My feelings, thoughts, and experience in biology has changed from the beginning to the end of the course.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
