Each chapter takes place in a different location in Oz. The prologue takes place on the yellow brick road, chapter one takes place in Munchkin Land, chapter two takes place in Gillikin, chapter 3 takes place in the City Of Emeralds, and the final chapter, chapter four, takes place in Vinkus/Kiamo Ko.

All of the "Ozians" try and make Elphaba seem like the antagonist of the story but the reader knows that the true protagonist is Elphaba. Elphaba's friends are Glinda, Boq, and Fyiero.  Elphaba also has a sister Nessarose (Wicked With Of The East). Dorothy, the innocent girl who is just trying to get back home to Kansas is the antagonist in the Witch's eyes. Dorothy's house was brutally dropped onto Elphaba's sister, Nessa (Wicked Witch Of The East). A tornado had picked the house up, and flew it from Kansas to Oz. The house then landed right onto Nessa, killing her instantly. All that was left of her were her two silver slippers given to Nessa from her father, Frex. Glinda gives away the silver slippers formerly owned by Nessa to Dorothy in hopes that they will bring her back home. Elphaba is livid, Elphaba believes that she should have been the one to have the slippers passed down to her. Elphaba looks different from everyone else in Oz and she is made fun of for that. The part of the article where it mentions the flight attendant giving the colored man a seat in first class, "therefore, Sir,
if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage,
a seat awaits you in First class.", is like Glinda befriending Elphaba. Glinda doesn't see Elphaba's skin a different color. When Elphaba was first born, she was born green. No one knew the real reason why she was green, except for Melana (Elphabas mother). SPOILER- Elphaba was born green because Melana cheated on Elphaba's "father" and had an affair with a man, who we later find out is "The Wizard Of Oz". The Wizard Of Oz gave Melana a green potion while they were having an affair and that was the reason why Elphaba was born green. Because of her abnormal skin color, everyone who saw her immediately thought she was possessed or she was a demon. "They cradled the infant in the crook of their arms, passing it around to test for weight and balance. To kill it was the kindest course of action." People imagined her being evil because she looked different. That was not the case at all. Elphaba is actually a very shy and kind character once she was revealed as herself.
