The Quest for religion and science that PI was looking and seaching and looking for the right thing to belive in becuse he was following the diffrent religions and seeing all the positvives in all of them with how they are ran and how people belive in them with the others

"Why cant I be both?"

he is saying that through the book that he was seeing all the positvies in each one and wanting to be all of them and seeing the simalrty in all of them with how they saw they had things in common and how his parents said they didnt .
