Though i have never been to my village myself, i have always adored the pictures my family sends when they visit our lands back in the village. One of the fields that i find most aesthetic is one of the mustard crop, and yes srk's ddlj (a bollywood movie) is to blame for that. Last winter my dad had visited my village to supervise the harvest and sale during the season and he shared this beautiful picture of our mustard field.

Village fairs (called "mela" in north India) are an annual occuring. There are many fun rides like the ferris wheel, swings, and toy horse back riding organised for kids as well as adults. Games like shooting, hooking the loop, and many more are organised and winners win prizes. There are also artists who perform tricks and stunts, eg. Magic shows, rope walking, puppet shows, music and dance etc. The fair attracts large crowds. I had once been to the famous pushkar mela in rajasthan when i was about 8 years old. Though i don't remember much about the experience, i remember playing the shoot the balloon game distinctly.
Though these fairs are an occasion of celebration, i find it disturbing to see how sometimes children as young as 5-10 years of age are made to perform tricks like rope walking which are dangerous and also require hours of practicing to master the art. It makes me ponder on the issue of child labour and quality of education in rural india.

In most villages people still have wood burning stoves , and utensils made out of mud . People still use old stone tools to grind and thresh called as Ammi or Attan-kal to grind (Its really delicious when spices are ground in those). In some villages with electric supply people have shifted to mixers or grinders provided by government.

In some villages some regional crops grow in abundance , we in cities might treat it as exotic crops but they are very common in villages. The foods are also based on these crops or vegetation. In my friend's hometown in Kerala , jackfruit is very common and grows in abundance, Their grandma cooks so many different dishes with jackfruit in all its forms .
My grandmother's birth place is Amaravathi, Tirupur district. It is a hilly region and she often tells me about how fruits (example --Pithecellobium dulce) or certain dishes I view as rare where actually abundant in the hills.

schools are small, one or two rooms and usually underfunded with very few children in each grade. Usually children are split based on age groups and allotted classrooms , children in different grades occupy the same classroom and are usually taught by the same teacher ; not to mention the schools are also understaffed.
It is common for multiple villages to have a common primary school. Schools for higher education are only present in near by towns.
(This is based on my observation from visit to schools adopted by our college during first year , our college usually helps with funding for improving infrastructure or with learning materials for kids)
