Skills are the central ways in which we do school today. Typically, they define achievement. Skills also help in designing learning standards and each content area has its own set of skills. There is a very high focus on skills in the classroom. This puts other important things such as identity, anti-racisms, criticality, and more on the back burner. 
 
Pursuit: 
Skills should never be privileged over other goals or taught alone. They must be taught alongside other pursuits. Teachers must be experts in their disciplines and see their content area in different situations and aspects of life. Students need skills to access the knowledge learned. 
 
How to implement:
 
·  Must be taught alongside other pursuits.
·  Teachers must be experts otherwise students could do poorly in the classroom.
·   Exercise to improve capabilities of the mind.

Teachers want students to gain confidence in using their learning about themselves and others to thrive.  Therefore it is imperative that students see themselves in the curriculum as well as have the opportunity to make meaning of what they are learning within the context of their identity.
