One of my favorite beside Chijmes, very detailed and intricate design. Well-kept and preserved.

Probably around 1930-40s. Might be categorized to modernism, although certainly not postmodernism. Although they keep the color maroon (shade of red). The windows styles are also simillar to the other architecture.

It is one of the biggest mall in this area. It was once a place for merchant form Bugis to trade. It soon became Bugis Street. Bugis Street was quite a "not good" business (those sex stuff), they also have booze, transveites and weird stuffs. But that Bugis Street is actually different with our current Bugis Street. That Bugis street was once demolished to make way for the construction of the Bugis MRT, which later on, Bugis Junction was built on top of the station. It became a big scale mall with no more "no good" business (i think).

The architecture has a lot of British influence. Not as much as the national museum of Singapore.

It was once shelter for baby girls abandoned by the family due to demand for boys. Girls born in year of tiger is also believed to bring bad luck and thus abandoned.

They pioneered the education for girls in Penang and Singapore, with nuns.

Now Chijmes is used for restaurants, shops and bar. And the halls are often used for events and weddings, no more schoolings happen. However during their active years they have made some schools, particularly those strarting with CHIJ (eg: CHIJ st. Nicholas)

It started in 20 January 1996. They are supported by MCCY.

The building of SAM is of a restored 19th century mission school St. Joseph Institute. They keep the details of the building as close as possible to the original state. That is why we can find a lot of British influence in the way it is built.
