For me, one of the most difficult parts of a thesis or research paper is the related literature especially if your topic is quite unique or unusually tackled. I think finishing the chapter 2 took us the longest to complete out of the rest because not only we need to gather literature but we also need to paraphrase its contents and input its relationship to our study. I think that the best practices in writing them are to always allot time and to give priority in doing them. Because if there is plenty of time, you can always check and check and check the contents you have inputted and verify if that is correct or should be included or revised or removed. It is a combination of pressure from expectations and a lack of confidence in our chosen topic. But our paper was way easier compared to our batchmates that recently transferred because they have experienced a real thesis while we only did a position paper. They have gathered different data just to complete their study but on our side, to prove the point of our side, we could defend it through different related literature. But honestly, the most difficult part for our group was finding related literature or another research local to our country. There are not much of studies in the Philippines about mental health but our main topic is related to students from our country. We needed to combine local and international research just to defend our group’s arguments.
     The best practice we did was to make our arguments convincing using a confident approach as it was the needed writing practice for us to defeat counterarguments. We need to persuade people in believing us without any biases by showing information from the opposing side. We kept our research paper as formal as we can but avoided too profound words because our readers would be Filipino students. We just made sure that our paper was easy to follow with the right format and order of facts and information.
     Based on my experience, tips in making a research paper would be discovered by yourself when you are the one conducting it. First and one of the most important tips for me, confidence is really the key to having a good research paper. You must be extensive with your topic as long as you avoid too unnecessary and unconnected details. You must believe your side at all times but make sure to have enough data to support your belief. Second, refrain from using too many subjective opinions in your paper. It will make it more difficult for you to defend it in the defense itself. Refraining from this information will also decrease the chance of having difficult questions in the forum. Last, make sure to have a continuous connection with your groupmates. This will help you criticize your parts so you yourself could develop them more.
