‘thinking marks the distinction between making and growing’

The difference being that the design of the organism is imported by genes whereas artefacts are composed by human imagination and impressed on the materials.

The difference between boundary and surface- James Gibson. There is a medium, surface and substance between them. The surface of an artefact no longer marks a physical division but a metaphysical division between the domains of mind and matter.

Which comes first making or growing? Every artefact begins with an ideal form that is opposed onto a material, in between the start and end is transformation, a becoming. Rather than turning beginnings into endings the maker brings thing to an end in order to launch things into new beginnings

The binary between subject and object is dissolved

Thing power is a non human energy that reflects that everything is alive, interconnected and in process.

Objects are alive because of their capacities to make difference in the world, to have effects, to shape the web of interrelationships of which they are a part.

There’s no such thing as ‘objects’ or ‘subjects’ from a certain perspective: they (and we) are never entirely passive or stable; they’re crystallisations of processes, and everything is in process, constantly undergoing transformation, constantly undergoing modification.
