Puritans were Christians who wanted a pure religion by getting rid of any catholic residue. They were members of a religious reform movement know as Puritanism that arose within the Church of England was too similar to the Roman Catholic Church and should eliminate ceremonies and practice. Other Puritans soon flocked to America hoping to purify the Anglican Church and develop a colony which would be a model to the world ("A City Upon a Hill). They believed if something happened it was caused by the devil which lead to them believing the devil was active and on earth. They also believed Witches/Wizards were a recruit from the devil.

The fear of witchcraft that came to a head in the 1691-1963, especially boiling over in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. This Fear ended with the death of many innocent women. Most of the women were middle aged wives or widows. Many implicated others for fear of their lives. The Salem Witch Trials pinpointed the underlying tension that was coming to head in many colonies due to religion and social standings. As seen in the image below women are accusing a man of being a warlock. All it took was one girl to accuse a women or man of witchcraft.

A Name given to the Puritan society that was to be created in the New World. The new MA colony would be a place of complete reform where god would be found in scripture and a strong worth ethic. The leader of the Puritan migration, John Winthrop planned to create a Utopian society based on Puritanism that would have no class distinction and would stress the importance of community and church. The society was to be an example to all the world of what could be achieved. It was anticipated that once the world saw this great city it would follow it.

Calvinism means total deprovity which means we all sin. Reformed Christians believe that God predestined some people to be saved and others were predestined to eternal damnation. The theology advanced by John Calvin, a Protestant reformer in the 16th century, and it's development by his followers. The term also refers to doctrines and practices derived from the works of Calvin and his followers that are characteristic of the Reformed Churches. The Calvinist form of Protestantism is widely thought to have had a major impact on the formation of the modern world.

Teenage girls were the first to exhibit witchcraft. When a person was sick, they quickly blamed witches for putting or practicing a spell. Therefore, when a witch was accused they would have to strip down naked, until a third nipple was found and if there wasn't they weren't a witch. Witches had to confess if they were a witch or else they would die. When people found out they did everything they could to stay away from them and gave them looks. Women were tired of being accused of being witches so they accused men. Over 200 people were jailed and accused of witchcraft. 9 men and women were hanged, when they were about to be hanged they would resided a verse from the bible and witches cannot reside from the lord's prayer which made confusion whether or not if they were witches.
