In order to help humans from getting H1N1, the first course of action is to make sure that the pigs are healthy. The environment of the swine is a huge factor in determining whether the swine will contract the virus. The living conditions need to be sanitized and clean, and the swine need to have vaccinations and organized herd and facility management.

Vaccinations are key to stopping the continuance of this virus. Yet, the vaccinations are also very tricky for this virus. The vaccination is only effective if the strain of the virus matches close enough to the vaccine's strain. This is very difficult to do, due to the fact that the virus has evolved into different forms and has produced inconsistent responses to the vaccinations.
