- Wikipedia says that PTSD can be caused by many different things one of them being war. PTSD can cause symptoms that lead to disturbing thoughts, feelings or dreams. The site also says that these effects can last long after the traumatic event. These facts are relevant to the book because they show that it is possible that Billy Pilgrim does have PTSD. We know from reading the book that the war was extremely traumatic and this has most likely caused him PTSD. Which leading him to be able to travel to time to time and have memory loss of events he's been through and even imagine aliens.

- According to the Harvard Gazette, many people who struggle with PTSD have fluctuating emotions when a certain memory sparks things in the past, especially war veterans.
-One study found that the average person with PTSD misses about 3.6 days a month of work due from anger, alarm, or distress. They also have lots of events throughout their daily lives like noises and experiences that remind them of the war, so someone with PTSD could change emotion on a dime.
-Finally, another study showed that the most common cause of PTSD is the unexpected death of a loved one which shows that PTSD can happen to anyone who experiences major trauma.

Find and discuss some real situations of war veterans experiencing PTSD. (Maddy)

The most common manifestation of PTSD symptoms for war veterans is a sudden mood swing into anger or fear, which can be provoked through even a small reminder of a traumatic memory. Another is a partial reliving of the event through one of the senses, similar to deja vu. This can include smell, emotions that were felt during the original event, physical feelings, and even the sensation of temperature changing for the person experiencing PTSD. The least common form of PTSD affecting daily life is a full-blown flashback, where a person completely relives the traumatic event. However, most of those who suffer from PTSD do not ever experience an immersive flashback. This form of PTSD has been made to seem more common by books and movies, which tend to exaggerate the occurrence of such symptoms. Billy's hallucinations or sense of a reality differing from this one could be meant to be the result of PTSD. A real-life example is many of the soldiers who came home after the World Wars faced "shell shock"–later known as PTSD–and had immense difficulty readjusting to civilian life after the horrors of the war.
