1. Geneva Centre for Autism

This centre, in cooperation with the Ministry of Children and Youth, and other community agencies, provides:

Services for ASD children and young adults;
Services to psychologists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists and behavioural therapists;
Ongoing support to families by helping families to navigate services and connect to resources, facilitating groups and workshops for parents and caregivers, and providing support and advocacy; and
They offer online training for those working with adults or children affected by ASD.

2. Kinark Child and Family Service.

Through it three programs the agency offers support to:

Community-Based Child and Youth Mental Health;
Autism; and
Forensic Mental Health/Youth Justice Services.

Kinark’s SSP – ASD program supports:

Children with an autism spectrum disorder and their families as they transition from IBI into public schools; and
Training and consultation to school board personnel in order to support the child as they transition from IBI into school.

How to access services:

Families that live in the Central East of Ontario can access its services:

York Region;
Simcoe County;
Durham Region and
Four Counties (Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, Northumberland).

3. Muki Baum Foundation

This is a non-governmental organization that operates in Toronto. It offers support to children and adults with autism and other complex disabilities and their families. In their website it reads that “Unlike Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), the Multi-Focal Approach addresses the causes of challenges, not only their symptoms. For example, we treat behaviour as a means of expressing needs or desires and as a reaction to environmental messages.”

They have Family Outreach programs open to individuals with disabilities, and their families.

4. York ASD Partnership

What does it do:

Leads families of children or adults diagnosed with ASD to the appropriate resource and action;
Raises awareness about ASD among physicians, service providers, parents and the general public.
Provides professional learning opportunities.
Coordinate individualized plans of care.
