One example is on page 14 - 15 of My Side Of The Mountain. This is when Sam made a fishhook out of twigs. The first time he went fishing with the fishhook that he made, it broke, and the fish that was on the hook went back into the lake. Then he tried again, and made a different fishhook. That time, he caught some fish.
