This painting is a visual of what an ofrenda for Dia De Los Muertos looks like. This painting was chosen for this theme because at the end of life there is sorrow. Life doesn't always give happiness it is sometimes mournful and that plays a big part in the journey of ones life.

This piece is a work of Picasso in which he created during the Blue Period. In which we know is a period in which blues were being used in order to depict sadness and sorrow. This piece was created to represent what Picasso himself experienced. To be poor, penniless something that Picasso sympathized with.

In relation to this theme is essentially mourning ones own life. We can mourn different things not just death; Picasso's painting clearly depicts the mourning of not living. The old man is essentially mourning the circumstances of his life.

This is a storytelling piece in which the young woman in the painting is crouched over a storage trunk next to her wedding dress. Her face is tucked closely into her arms conveying the message that she is clearly in distress or in grief. The story behind this painting is about this young woman mourning the loss of the man she was due to marry.

The connection between the theme and this painting is quite clear, this woman mourns her deceased fiance. She is dressed in black and the room looks solemn which tells us a lot about the tone.

This is a grieving piece created by Paul Cezanne. Despite this piece being a representation of grief it is not the grief in which one goes through because of death but rather because of the failures in ones life. This painting was created to represent the artists own grieving in light of his failures and losses in his career.

The connection between this piece and the theme is clear. Mourning isn't always for the loss of another person but it can be for the losses in life. Things that Paul Cezanne lost is a great example; such as his career in which he felt as though he failed in.

This painting by Maxim Vorobiev is very different compared to his other works. Most works by Maxim depict seascapes, landscapes and countryside views. However, in light of his wife's death he captured the shock and pain of losing a loved one. This painting perfectly presents grief from the colors used to the lone oak tree. This painting is a metaphor depicting the sudden death of a loved one; hence the lightning.
