As a teacher, you can help them recognize what they need to be successful. The teacher can model self-advocacy for themselves to make the student more comfortable doing it themselves, such as asking more questions if needed or if they need more attention on a lesson being taught.

Schools make it harder for children with disabilities because schools don't listen to and advocate for the children's needs. Lessons being taught to the students don't match the students' learning ability. Students need extra time, and some schools don't offer that. Some students often have social difficulties that make it hard for them to talk to their peers and can make it hard in group settings in the classroom.

An educator needs to understand what a child's brain needs because not every child is the same. Some children need to move around to focus. An educator needs to understand their students so they can teach them in the best way possible.

I believe the most powerful accommodation you can do for a child is to give them more time on every assignment you give them. I believe this helps the students with their test anxiety, and it can help students do better. In my own classroom, I will implement this. After all, I know what it is like to have the feeling of time passing by and not being able to pass my tests because I was slower than the others. I will stay after school and use free periods to make sure each student has a chance to be successful.
