What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Constructing my opening sequence involved using a lot of technologies in which I have learned to use over the weeks when creating the opening sequence. This ranged from actually filming the project to finalising the editing which all involved using various bits of technology and learning about them in the process.

As well as putting together and finishing the opening sequence, learning is a major part of the process as it will help me in the future with other projects as well as helping me in my current one. One of the programs in which helped me the most was Adobe Premiere Pro which I used to put my opening sequence together including the entire editing process. By watching tutorials of how to work parts of the program I learned efficiently how to use the program and take advantage of the many processes it can do to enhance my opening sequence. Below is a screenshot of the opening sequence being created and edited. Below is a screenshot of me in the editing software used to put my opening sequence.

As seen above, the whole process looks vast however as I have been using the program to create and produce my opening sequence, I quickly learned the techniques in which I need to use it. As stated before the camera was a technology that helped greatly in the production of my sequence as it was what it was captured on. I learned camera techniques, different shot types and other features that enhanced the production. When filming, I also used a tripod for a steady shot as well as one that looked professional. I didn't use a dolly as I thought that the tracking shot should be used without a tripod.

Moving on to sound, the technologies used were a large factor to how it was captured and placed onto my production sequence. With Foley I went into the music room suite in which I could record sounds that would overwrite a few of the sounds that weren't enhanced enough including footsteps and breathing. This was done by using various materials in which I could make real life noises on. When I had successfully recorded the sounds I would save them to the iTunes on the Apple Mac computers in the room and transfer them to the computer that had my saved project on. The next stage was to transfer the files to an mp3 format and simply place them into my project. Not only does the process of Foley enhance the production but it also improved my knowledge on how to do similar tasks that may come in handy in the future increasing my knowledge in the area.

The use of ICT also contributed a great deal to the making of my sequence with one of the uses being researching other opening sequences of the same genre by using YouTube. Our media teacher was able to get a BAFTA nominated editor to conduct an interview with our class via Skype which helped my understanding of editing techniques as well as getting first hand advice. When posting my finished opening sequence, I posted it onto YouTube but also another social networking site, Facebook. Facebook was able to get me feedback on what other thought of the production as well as it getting a bit more advertisement so more people can view it.

I have learnt a lot on how technology from the process of constructing my product as it has been involved in every stage one way or another from the use of editing to posting the finished product onto social media sites. It has all helped in the manufacture of my product and will do so in future projects I come to face in the future.
