<title>The boy who turned up in Milford years later was a man who turned so many heads with his witty answers. Samuel Davenport longed to live in America to leave the old world behind and dig deep into the promise of a scientific adventure. Little did he know that Thomas Jefferson had the same idea. The truth is that he knew that long ago in his genealogy two branches of Davenports had divided the tree in two. His family never left the pristine village of Malvern Hills. He knew that a saintly man bearing his same last name had settled in New Haven. As a young agricultural engineer and son of an older father who had just died days after his graduation, he feared having to face the world on his own. His farming endeavor was a safe harbor as he had no doubt in his mind that it would work. He knew that in the United States production needed a boost in spite of the imports, there was a real need for a quicker solution to the average family&#39;s aching pocket. He decided to give himself a chance by becoming a citizen of the new world since Worcestershire had begun to slow down. So young Samuel kept talking it over with his neighbor and friend Evan. They lived a hundred miles from Liverpool, where Sam needed to get work in exchange for passage to America. </title>

<title>Evan&#39;s family stagecoach was the talk of the town. The family&#39;s business did warrant so much of what they owned. To say it bluntly, he hired his father&#39;s chauffeur to give Sam a ride to Liverpool. Another man spent the forty hour trot inspecting the road for them. There were no obstacles along the way and nothing to be afraid of in the countryside that divides the Malvern Hills from the shore. Evan&#39;s knack for drama made a difference in Sam&#39;s life at that point. He advised him to role play a banker trying to take his remaining fortune abroad. &quot; You don&#39;t have to show the gold, just believe you own it to buy land when you get to Salem. Fill your employer with certainty that as an agricultural engineer, you will reciprocate him with crops almost for nothing in return. He is trusting you now and will want to keep you from spending the meager salary he pays you. .....Think of me when you are ready to share your fortune. He is getting older and he wants you to buy land in New England.&quot;</title>

<title>So that night, Sam fell deep into sleep and awakened at sunrise to look out from his window and proclaim it was time to ask for the raise. The wind blew fierce with a passion. Now he just needed to convince Gallaguer that it was time to sail into the unknown. Although he never underestimated Gallaguers ill temper, he saluted him with an uncommon smile. Gallaguer immediately asked him what was wrong. Sam responded: &quot;Nothing much, I must ask you if the end of the month&#39;s take off will be good for you? I really have to begin my journey to New England.</title>

<title>Samuel had turned twenty two and he would soon depart May 20th aboard Gallaguer&#39;s brigantine on a Sunday afternoon. Gallaguer&#39;s captain and crew had a total of twenty days to chart the trajectory and keep their merchandise intact and at the expected temperature. The ship&#39;s owner had set the rules that Sam had been entrusted with for a very good reason. Along with bidding him good luck, the old chip on the block gave Sam a road map. On it there were doodle portraits of people he had known on journeys to and from Liverpool and who most likely could be dwelling within a searchable radius in either Salem or New Haven homes. They did not have to know him. He was not that important. Time would tell, was the main idea. Sam read all the specifications of his job: dry meat and fish, wines and canned foods were destined to reach Norfolk and Salem. The men needed a little push. They were prepared to capture a whale or two aside from catching sardines for sale in New England. And finally, there was one name Sam had to remember well. It was William Sanford, the honorable coastguard in Salem who Gallaguer knew and was sending transit schedules. Landowners he knew amounted to thousands of acres which in Gallaguer&#39;s opinion would most likely welcome Sam&#39;s background as an agricultural engineer from a British college. </title>

<title> Sam got out by the port of Liverpool&#39;s gate while Evan continued on with the two drivers to take his horses to a much needed share of water at the nearby stream. By noon, Sam had already reached the sailor&#39;s nook where he spent the day surveying the port. He did secure a nice room behind the building adjacent to the nook and all to himself. He prayed the right man to work for would come along soon. Within twenty four hours and after conversations with several strangers he had managed to make a connection. His name was Gallaguer and he liked Sam&#39;s hunter top hat. His appearance did not go unnoticed either, Sam thought to himself. To him, Gallaguer looked like an older man in an extra large linen shirt covering the muscular body of a young wrestler. In fact, rigging was his life and it really showed. Though he did tire sooner now that he was in his late fifties, he had been pleading to meet someone like Sam. Gallaguer himself was a man of character and had taken him up for hire with his heart on his sleeve. He needed a right hand... Both of them enjoyed breakfast tea. The young man thought breakfast tea tasted like ambrosia, as he put it, but Gallaguer told him that it was not the tea. It was the jam, the milk, and the honey. The young Sam actively imparted Gallagher with the brainy scaffolding he needed to build his master&#39;s ship in half the time. So weeks from that first day of work, one morning, as he stretched his arms outside before beginning his day, the sight of Evan returning with the money from the sale of his house, threw him off like lightning by day. Yes, he realized, Evan had collected enough money from neighbors, fixed it and sold it to the right man. Malvern Hills was not cowards&#39; country, but rather builders who renovated his house into a village inn. The house had been purchased by a wealthy man whose capital did not seem to feel the pinch. When Evan and his assistant reached the place, Samuel dashed out and hugged him before saying: &quot;Let all England know, you are the greatest friend anyone could ever have, and I mean it.&quot;</title>
