For the participation rubric K-2, how do we assess kids on iReady time if they don't have internet access? Same for paper assignments...if they can't scan or text.

Joey
As we discussed, we may need to do a paper only rubric for K-2, but I want to caution about making that change yet. I think more students have come online in the recent weeks and we may have more participation (especially after parents are given the rubric for S and I participation). We are also still waiting for guidance on turning in paper work.

What is expected for kindergarten in regards to grades and live videos?

I have placed a participation tracker spreadsheet in the OneDrive. You all can do that even if you know some kids aren't online. It's just for data collection. As far as grades, etc., you are doing the same thing the other grade levels are doing. Remember, this is a "hold harmless" period, so if you have to give an I for a missing assignment, it won't count against them. Please do the live videos as outlined in the document. You can make it part of Seesaw, which is the easiest thing for kids to use. Let's talk more during PLC on Tuesday.

We are just singling out one lesson in reading and one in math to "go live" and you can attach a graded assignment to that lesson. You don't have to have one big idea per week.
So the entries for the participation log include one grade from the live lesson and one lesson turned in online. For Infinite Campus, are we expected to put both these grades in for Reading and Math, or just the one final participation grade? Also, when we enter into IC, will we be entering a grade or S, N, U, I? If we are entering a grade that is supposed to be based on engagement, how do we enter anything except a 100 if they engaged?

This is something that needs clarification. We have not made a decision on putting participation grades in IC (although it says in the parent FAQ that students will receive two grades per subject (R and M) each week--one assignment and one participation grade. Regardless, the engagement grade is based on the 4 section rubric that is included in the teacher guidance document that is in the OneDrive. There is a way to determine engagement/participation based on the rubric.

Can a Brain Pop count as a lesson for K-2 (not for every lesson but for some)? It is hard to teach live lessons when we normally use manipulatives and visuals, but most of us don't have these at home.

I know you don't have manipulatives and visuals at home, but a lesson could be something as simple reading a book and talking about the characters (or some other mini lesson) and letting the kids write and share about the book. Also, there are digital manipulatives available on the McGraw-Hill site for math (on Classlink). Above all else, just keep it as simple as possible.
