the quake catcher network is a citizen science project that uses peoples phones and computers that record seismic data, effectively creating a large area of seismometers that can tell where the earthquake is. how it works is very fascinating. it utilizing the accelerometers that are in computers and phones that can tell if the phone is upside down, or sideways and it will flip the phone screen. then it will tell if there is shaking nearby from hundreds of people then it will say that this is a earthquake and then puts out data to the central server to put warnings all around the area toi warn people.
