This is Lauren's starting point. Her gated community is where the whole journey begins. At this location, she witnesses violence and crimes on a daily basis. This is due to the societal collapse occuring in her region. After having family members die and her community being destroyed, she decides to travel up North using Highway 101

As she heads up North, she passes through various little towns. While passing through these small areas in California, she encounters other travelers and survivors. She forms this group while facing danger, such as bandits and violent gangs.

They were running out of water and food around San Luis. The first two merchants they talked to wanted to sell them food a excessive price that would empty their pockets and they realized that it was a con by talking to a third one that had normal prices. Therefore they had to trade items such as one of their knifes and jewelry to be able to eat. This was another way for them to open their eyes to the real world and to not trust the first information they get.

Question: At this rate, do you think they will make it to Canada?

Around this area five men tried to steal from them and a big brawl broke out. They killed three using their guns and then the rest ran away. This obstacle was very useful because it made them realize how the world operated outside of their community and this made them develop their survival instinct.

Although Lauren and her group do not reach Canada, they find a somewhat safe place where her and her group establish. Finally fleeing the dystopian society they lived in, they celibrate by using the remainder of their rations to set up a feast. After the feast, they share the stories and experiences they had throughout their long journey. They sit down in a circle, and write these down in Lauren's Earthseed book to remember their journey.

Question: Do you think Lauren is satifyed with how her journey ended? Will she eventually take root to the stars?

While walking on highway 101 one of their team members got seriously injured. Zahra Moss had fell because of how tired she was and broke her ankle. Bankole knew how to handle the situation because of his knowledge as a medical doctor and they where only stopped for a couple hours.

Question : If Bankole was not a doctor who do you think would of taken control of the situation and explain why?

They entered this small town north of San Jose that seemed like a very calm and safe town. They were seriously thinking about settling until they realized something was off. It was too good to be true. They investigated a bit and realized this was a trap to to get slaves and they had to escape. They were sneaking out on the second night of their stay but someone spotted them as they were trying to sneak out. They managed to knock him out before he cought anyone's attention and they stole his gun. They then realized that their survival instincts they had developed in the beginning of their path kept them away from slavery.
