The history of electric cars is long, and complicated, but has many key points for the industry that helped propel electric cars forward. At the beginning of the electric cars in 1834 Thomas Davenport built the first electric motor. Other people have also built devices that use electricity to move, but Thomas’s were the first that were big enough and powerful enough to actually work.

Next in 1884 was a huge leap for electric cars,a man named Thomas Parker made the first fully usable electric car. After that In 1898 Dr. Ferdinand Porsche built his first car (it was electric). That car was the first car the company Porsche built. By the 1900 Electric cars started to become more popular as they are easier to use than steam powered or gasoline powered cars. Following much later on in 2006 Tesla founded in 2003 shows prototypes of their new car the Tesla Roadster. It is expensive at a price of $80,000, but even though it is electric it performs like a sports car. Finally in 2018 electric cars sales really start to sky-rocket, and continue to rapidly grow/increase for years to come. Those are just the big key points of the long complicated history of electric cars.

Electric cars can impact humans for the better in many ways, whether it be money, or gas prices, and maintenance. If people buy electric cars then the government will offer them money as a way to encourage the sales of electric cars. This can help many people who want to help the environment and get a nice electric car, but the cars might be a little pricey for them. The government also funds electric cars businesses. “This money is given by the government to encourage the auto businesses to make electric cars.” Thus If the government did not help out with money at all then car companies would lose money on electric vehicles. Many people want to buy electric cars, but since the up front price of them are so expensive people are scared to buy them. However the up front price may be expensive, studies from MIT have shown that electric cars may be cheaper in the long run because of the gas prices and the maintenance required to keep gasoline powered cars in good shape. Those are some of the ways electric cars can impact humans for the better.

Electric cars can impact the environment in many ways from producing less greenhouse gases to producing less harmful chemicals in the air that kill birds and other animals. If you buy an electric car you are helping the environment because, experts agree that electric cars create less of a carbon footprint than gas powered cars and trucks. In 2020 researchers from the University of Cambridge found that in 95% of the world, using electric cars is better for the environment than gasoline powered cars. Thus electric cars are more sustainable, and better for most of the environment around the world than gasoline powered modes of transportation. A study from MIT found that the battery production for an EV generates higher emissions than the manufacturing of a gas powered car. However those energy deficiencies of making batteries are offset due to the EV’s superior energy efficiency over time. When you drive gas powered cars you burn gas, according to the EPA, every gallon of gas burned creates around 8,887 grams of CO2 therefore polluting the environment. When you drive your gas powered car you burn gas, that gas creates CO2 which is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gasses get trapped in the Earth's atmosphere this leads to the earth getting hotter, and contributes to global warming. During a month of tests at a lab in Aachen West Germany 10 monkeys were exposed to diesel fumes. They discovered those diesel fumes contained toxic Nitrogen oxide, and got the monkeys sick. When you drive your gas powered car this stuff can get into the air, consequently birds and other animals can inhale those toxic chemicals, and become sick or and/or die. Those are some of the ways electric cars are beneficial to the environment.

As there are problems with gas powered cars there are also solutions. Since the pollution from electric cars is such a big deal, Biden's solution is, he wants to set a target by 2030 for half of the cars in the US to be battery electric or plug-in hybrid. A big and underrated problem with gas powered cars is Putting them tougher.Gas powered cars take a lot of hard work and labor, but electric cars take 30% less labor than gas powered cars, industry leaders have said. Many of Fords, and other big named car companies cars that they produce are gas powered that are not good for the environment, and many people drive them. But Ford announced they plan to attempt by 2030 for 40% of the cars they sell to be electric, and better for the environment. Those are some of the problems made by gas powered cars and their solutions.
