The First Battle of the Marne took place Sept 6-10, 1914 in Germany. Germany was trying to achieve an early victory against France so that it could avoid fighting France and Russia at the same time. As part of the Schlieffen Plan, Germany planned to avoid fighting on two fronts at the same time. The First Battle of the Marne followed a string of early victories from Germany, but they were not able to sustain momentum. A French-British counter-offensive and after a few days of bitter fighting, the Germans retreated. This battle is significant because it allowed the enemies of Germany to mobilize and attack Germany on two fronts, which eventually wore down the German fighting forces. All of this signified that this would not be a quick and easy victory as the German's thought. After this battle, both sides began digging into trenches to avoid the major casualties brought by new technology and weapons being used against old military strategy. Lastly, this basically ended the gaining and losing of territory, the war became stagnant after this.

Gallipoli is known as one of the allied powers most unsuccessful to gain the upper hand in WWI. It lasted from February 1915, to January 1916. The battles started by the British and French initiating a naval attack on Turkey´s Dardanelles straits. The commanders were very unprepared which resulted in suspicion allied troops. Later on the Turkish Army held a very strong defense which led to January with an accumulation of 500,000 soldiers lost which the majority belonged to the allied powers.

The battle of Tannenberg, Germany started on august 26,1914 when Russian troops attempted to invade German territory. The Russian General led his second army to the southwest while his first army was sent to the northeast. The military strategy was unsuccessful because of a miscommunication on the Russian side which led to a weak army. The messages were interfered with which led the German army to set up numerous traps and be able to cut up their supplies. Germany ended up winning the battle capturing 95,000 Russian troops along with guns and equipment to fill six trains back to Berlin.

The battle of Jutland took place on Denmark ´ s North sea coast. The battle involved an estimate of 250 ships it was originally a small crossfire between German and British scouts. The British uncovered the Germans communication code and used it to their advantage. The Germans ordered 40 ships to move to the danish coast while the British ordered the fleet to meet them at sea. Eventually the forces met but then the Germans retreated on the first of June they claimed victory because they had taken down 14 British ships and 6,784 British soldiers compared to Germany´s 3,058 fatalities. Britain also claimed victory because they stood as a strong opponent after the battle and were able to maintain their blockage against the Germans. In the end after the battle of Jutland the German forces were never able to reclaim their previous level of power or control.
