Despite the recent spell of very warm weather, Sandfield children and staff have been absolutely amazing.

Everyone has worked together to stay safe and comfortable, making sensible choices such as keeping in the shade and creating cooler learning environments by darkening classrooms.

A particular highlight has been Mr Osmond’s much-loved sprinkler at breaktime – a refreshing interlude that has brought smiles and a welcome cool-down for all!

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our families for your continued support. Ensuring that children come to school in PE kit, with hats and water bottles, has made a real difference in helping us manage the heat effectively.

With cooler weather and some rain forecast for Saturday, we are looking forward to a return to more typical June temperatures. Until then – we’ve done it, Sandfield! What a brilliant team effort all round.

A Wonderful Summer Event – Thank You, Sandfield

What a fantastic day we had at our recent school event, with a brilliant turnout from families and a truly joyful atmosphere from start to finish. It was wonderful to see so many members of our community come together to celebrate and enjoy the occasion.

The entertainment was a real highlight. The Sandfield School Choir delighted the crowd, while the Boogie Pumps workshop got everyone moving and smiling. We were also treated to a fantastic performance from the Guildford County School Year 10 band, alongside a lively playlist carefully chosen by the children themselves. A special mention must go to our talented KS1 dancers, who kept the energy high by dancing enthusiastically to every track.

Events like this don’t happen without a huge team effort. Our sincere thanks go to the PTA, who expertly masterminded the entire event. We are also incredibly grateful to all the parents and carers who volunteered on the stalls, our Year 6 pupils and former students who lent a helping hand, and the Sandfield staff for their continued support.

It was a truly special day, full of fun, laughter and community spirit. Together, we raised £3297 which are valuable funds to enrich the experiences of our Sandfield children – thank you all for being part of it!

Feeling hot hot hot in Reception!

We managed to survive the heat by enjoying plenty of indoor activities, eating lots of ice and glorious water play. Mrs Kelly taught us “the cooling touch” , a calming technique using gentle downward strokes to help lower our body temperature. Of course, the highlight for the children was being hosed down in the playground by Mr Osmond, along with our very own homemade splash pad outside!

PE day for Reception Class is on Mondays 

Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning about our world and how we can care for it.

This week, Year 1 explored festivals from around the world that celebrate nature. As part of their learning, they created traditional Martenitsa decorations, inspired by the Bulgarian custom that marks the arrival of spring. Next week, Year 2 will be making their own Martenitsa as they continue exploring global traditions and our connection to the natural world.

PE days for Year 1 & Year 2 are on Mondays and Wednesdays 

This week, Year 3 and 4 have begun a new writing unit about Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in November 1922.

They have been on a treasure hunt to find information about Howard Carter, his life and inspiration to become an Egyptologist and also to make fact files about Tutankhamun. It is a fascinating tale which led to such an important discovery for world history and our understanding of the mysteries of Ancient Egypt. 

PE days for Year 3 & Year 4 are Tuesdays & Thursdays 

Our DT sewing project has now begun, and the children are thoroughly enjoying this exciting activity. They are carefully sewing soft toys based on designs created by a KS1 pupil, bringing the original ideas to life with great creativity and skill. It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm and teamwork as they develop their sewing techniques. The finished toys will be presented by the end of term, and we are all looking forward to seeing the final results.
