As muslim teachers, we should seize the opportunity to connect our pupils with Allah SWT. E.g normalize the Islamic teachings- give and reply salam, do duas before learning!
2. Be a good muslim role model to our pupils - e.g remind them to attend their prayers and practice daily sunnahs, simple things like smile~~ :D

~ Teaching is a profession and Islam is a religion. It is better to be able to combine both into one, by applying Islamic teaching into lessons. Eg: Giving Salam to Muslim pupils, praying before starting the lesson, etc.
~ Try our best to understand our pupils' needs, instead of constantly forcing them into something that they are not. They just wanted to be understood and most teachers overlooked that aspect.

Placing ourselves in the students' shoes will improve our understanding on their way of thinking. By understanding the students, we can proceed on finding the best solution or approaches in handling the behavioural problems among the students. For instances, cases of behavioural problem due to family problem can be handled in three ways; tangan (power), lidah (spoken), hati (heart). As such, knowing our students and as muslims ourselves, we need to help other people and be absolute sincere in the duties placed upon us as a teacher.

Today's session was interesting. It made me reflect a lot. I learned that:
1) You don't have to be a Muslim to be a model teacher as in teaching kids by practicing good manners. Islam had long taught us that.
2) Its amazing how as a teacher we need to be thoughtful of our students by lowering our level to understand how they think, and to speak simply in a way that they can easily understand, just like our Prophet S.A.W did.
3) Our responsible as a teacher not just to teach them the curricula set by the government, but also to teach Islamic values as demanded by Islam. And to think that we'll be questioned for that scares me.

Tazkirah 1
1. Sometimes, it's better to start with the simplest thing in showing the value of being a muslim to your pupils. Let's try to start with salam and doa instead of good morning. Many of my pupils during practicum phase 1 hesitated to say anything until I start saying 'Assalammualaikum wbt, class' hahah. At first I was not into the fact that I have to speak first tp bila fikir balik, seorang yg bagi slm kepada yg lebih ramai tu lagi byk pahala dia kan?

2. One thing I want to highlight from the video is when he said teacher needs to be their trueself when they teach. This is so true. Sometimes my inner demon and inner child keluar juga msa mengajar and I suppose (I hope) it's not a bad thing because at least I ain't pretending to be the kindest teacher when I'm not.

From GM: A small step counts. It's okay to initiate a small gesture to incorporate good behaviours among our pupils, that are aligned to the way of Islam.

From the video: One of the points which is finding a balance between being authoritative and friendly really resonates with me. I found that I sometimes were 'too friendly' with my pupils to the point that I felt guilty when being serious with them. This scenario eventually hindered the lesson. In the next practicum, I hope I can find the balance between being authoritative and friendly with my pupils. :)

Being an English teacher doesn't mean you cannot teach or apply your religious practices. We should stop the stereotyping of only religious teachers should teach Islam. No, we are Muslims too and we have the right and responsibility to spread da'wah for our students, even if it was teaching something small such as teaching them the beautiful Salam. And Alhamdulillah, how amazing it is to be a teacher of this dunya and in the akhirah, to spread knowledge and it lives on until the Day of Judgment, SubhanAllah <3

May we all become great English teachers that too, are able to spread da'wah to the little ones.
