1619- Slaves arrive from Jamestown (Triangular Trade and Middle Passage)

The establishment of triangular trade influenced the rest of American history up until the American Civil War. This trade of Slaves across the ocean resulted in a mass population of slavery in the south and had opened up a market for goods and raw materials across Africa and Europe.

First sucessful British colony in the New World. Led by John Smith and was originally created to find Gold for Britain. John Rolfe also helped the success of the economy through the farming of tobacco.

This changed the religious landscape of the colonies. The revivals that took place weakened the hold of the established churches, and a large number of people joined new evangelical churches. It helped the colonists prepare for the American Revolution by strengthening the appeals of nationalism and individual rights.

1754-1763 : French and Indian War

The French and Indian War was fought between the British and French. The British won this war with the help of the colonies and Native Americans, but Britain went into lots of debt from this war. In order to pay off this debt they began taxing the colonists, which led to colonial discontent pushing towards a revolution.

1763- Treaty of Paris

This treaty ended the French and Indian War. France gave up all their land east of the Mississippi. This further expanded the territory of the colonies but Britain created the Proclamation Line of 1763 which prohibited colonists from the lands acquired from the war. This displeased many as they couldn't expand westward.

1693- Salem Witch Trials

The Salem witch trials were a series of inproper trials in Salem Massachusetts which wrongly accused many for being associated with witchcraft. This set up America's need for a fair trail by jury rather than putting people's lives at stake over suspicion.

1776- Declaration of Independence

The American Continental Congress created a list of grievances against King George III and explained why the American colonies were separating from Britain. The declaration also unified the colonies so they could fight together as one instead of trying to make different peace agreements with Britain. In the end, this brought America's independence from Britain.

1777- Articles of Confederation

The Articles of the Confederation was the first document to establish the functions of the national government of the U.S. after declaring independence from Britain. When making the articles many feared having a strong central government like they had under Britain, so they established a weak central government. This articles had issues that needed to be resolved which led to the planning of another document.

1788- Constitution

The Constitution was a brand new structure put into place to replace the weaker Articles of Confederation. The Constitution laid out the structure and function of the federal government, and through the Constitution there was the creation of the three branches of government. A key part of the document was the vesting of power to the people. This is why in America we elect a president, have a bill of rights, have federal courts, and much more that wasn't established through the Articles of Confederation.

1794- Cotton Gin

Created by Eli Whitney with the intent of phasing out slavery because this device would make separating the seeds from the cotton so much faster. With this invention, the outcome was an inverse of Eli Whitney's wishes and slavery boomed with rapid production and with slavery at a brand new rise.

1790- Hamilton's Economic Plan

Hamilton came up with an idea to help the American government with tracking of funds. He came up with a national bank, ways to assume state and national debts, and ways to boost American economy. This was opposed by Democratic-Republicans who believed this was Unconstitutional and only supported rich white men.

This was a convention held in New York. It was composed of many women of whom many were abolitionists as well and they wanted to see changes and equality for women as well as for all races in America.

1830s- Indian Removal and Trail of Tears

An act passed during the Jackson presidency which called for the removal of all Native Americans in order for the continuation of westward expansion. This resulted in the Trail of Tears where millions of Native Americans travelled thousands of miles, suffered many casualties, and were forced from their roots for the benefits of the American people.

Manifest Destiny was a coined term in order to increase the number of people which were moving into newly gained western territories. This term meant for all Americans to fufull their duty in spreading America, God willing, from sea to sea.

This Treaty was the official document to end the Mexican- American war and allowed for the United States to take major chunks of land like California. This did cause controversy over whether these state would remain free, or become slave states.

Abraham Lincoln wins the election of 1860 which causes immense uproar from the South because Lincoln had said before that a house divided cannot run. They knew that this would lead to the abolition of slavery and this was enough to cause many states to succeed from the Union starting with South Carolina.

The 13th Amendment signified the end to slavery across everywhere in the United States. Now the practice of slavery and the ownership of Slaves was heavily punishable by law.
