 Assistive technology came alive because before previous laws were passed there were no legal mandates to

provide assistive technology to students with disabilities.This technology has the potential to help people with

disabilities by offering opportunities to participate in their communities. These oppurtunities include being able to learn,participate , and communicate to achieve

greater overall levels of independence. In the education arena this technology can provide access to the general education curriculum, educational experiences

such as reading, writing and assessment activities that most people without disabilities take for granted. While the technology is very helpful it is not enough, the initiative should be on the integration

of assistive technology into the curriculum. The focus would have to be how assistive technology can be used in all kinds of classrooms to enhance the learning of students with all sorts of disabilities.
